Tire Compressor

I have a small pancake comprssor it works ok (35 - 45 psi) on our cars and light duty trucks. But, it is overwhelemed when I try to air up the RV tires. The RV is a small 25" class C, relatively light - 11,500 Lbs ready to roll. Tire manufacture pressure chart tells me 60 lbs for the weight on my axles, I shoot for 65.

Short of the %1,000+ babies, any suggestion/experiences with the twin tank types?

  • You may want a compressor that does more than 65 if you want to put 60 in your tires. If a compressor shuts off at 65, it probably won't turn back on until the pressure drops to 55 which won't do you any good if you're trying to air the tire up to 60. You'll be out there with a screw driver in the end of the air chuck bleeding off air until the compressor drops to 55 and turns on again. Or, if you get the tire up to say 58 and the compressor is has 58 in it and won't turn on until it gets down to 55, you're going to sit there in a stalemate between the tire and the compressor. So before you buy a new compressor, find out if the pressure it turns on at (not what it will go up to) is more than what you need to put in your tires.

  • Didn't quite understand the question but if you search this Forum for `air compressor' there have been previous posts on the subject. To reduce the number of posts search the results for `sears' for example.
