Mr. Mark (respectfully), before getting a TPMS, I used to check every time I stopped to see if my 5th wheel tires (doing the bang test) were holding air, and regularly checked air pressure. Then, one day after getting gas in Limon, Co., about 20 miles down 24 HWY, one tire came apart. I didn't hear anything, or feel anything, or know anything until someone pulled up along side me and pointed at my trailer tire yelling something I couldn't hear. I pulled over and found the side of my trailer ripped up, one tire mostly gone in shreds, and the other very hot.

I will never be without a tire pressure monitoring system ever again. I use them now on my motorhome AND toad. It's nice to be able to scroll through each tire on the monitor and see how pressures are doing.

We have the Pressure pro System, works great, only 1 ounce/sensor, I have them attached to the metal valve stems on all 6 tires as I removed the 2 rear extensions. I install in the spring, after setting the tire pressure if necessary, have not had to add air for the rest of the season.

Easy answer: Determine weight of sensor-- say .75 oz. Get a .75 oz wheel weight and place it 180 degrees from the valve stem on the front wheels. DONE

On rear-- no issue, as the sensors are already 180 degrees from each other.

I use TST and am very pleased with the system. It saved me a lot of grief when I lost pressure on an inside dual coming down asleep mountain on a busy Interstate, it allowed me to slow down in sufficient time to limp into a tire shop for repairs. We are currently in Alaska on an extended trip, many miles on rough dirt roads with no loss of air pressure. Will never travel again without a tpms.

My question is this, will any TPMS sensor throw a wheel out of balance enough that it needs re-balancing once installed? Some of these sensors look rather large.

I saw a Class C very similar to mine on the side of the road yesterday with a wildly shredded tire. (debris across 3 lanes with zigzag skid marks on the road) This convinced me that a TPMS system is something I want for my own RV. I've been reading about them for sometime now but have yet to see anything regarding Wheel Balancing. We recently had a belt fail on an inside dually that was so far out of balance that it shook cabinets open. Now, I know that things can happen in an instant and those situations are not always preventable but if I CAN prevent some situations than I will with a TPMS.

Sorry for your troubles with your TST, but doing without one altogether is just asking for trouble. A tire that picks up a nail and starts leaking, can get very hot and come apart in huge chunks. Those chunks coming off the tire at supersonic (well, maybe not that fast) speeds can really cause a LOT of damage....much more than the cost of a new TPMS. Checking your tires before and after being on the road doesn't do anything to help when a tire comes apart. I highly recommend you re-think your position on this subject. Don't let one bad apple scare you away from being realistic.

I installed a TPMS system after driving home to Cincinnati from south of Lexington and found the next day that an outside dual had zero air pressure and a large spike in the tread. It didn't shred or affect the other dual. I have no idea where I picked it up, but it scared me enough to add the TPMS system. Now I have a monitor right there on the dash.
Only other flat was when some idiot backed into the left front tire of my toad. Oh, wait. The idiot was me. :)

Well, I didn't have such good luck with the TST system that I paid almost $600 for. I bought eight sensors for the coach and four for the toad. The 'repeater' antenna never worked.

At first things seemed to go OK then I had two sensors not register. I took them back to TST when they were in Quartzsite, AZ, at the big tent event. Of course the guy was nice and replaced the two bad sensors.

Every one of my tires except one lost air because of the TST sensors. I never used my air compressor more than when I had those sensors. I ended up giving the whole system to someone in Florida free just to get rid of it.

I would hope that the the newer version is better but I got sick and tired of worrying and filling up my tires. And it was frustrating that the antenna never would let me read the toad's tires.

I have the TST also. Great customer service. All of the above will do what you need. Shop for the best price between them and you will be happy.

I have TST. Don't know anything about the ones I do not have. I think they all do what they are designed to do.
