Prefer a Jeep Wrangler. Have a line on a good used one....2007 Wrangler Unlimited X. As I have read and understand it, there is nothing special that needs to be done to the transmission or transaxle for a Wrangler to tow 4-down. Does it require a manual transmission or will an automatic work with the transmission and 4WD in neutral? Thanks!!!

Just put the transfer case in neutral.

We tow a 07 wrangler, place the transmission in park. place the transfer case in Neutral, and go. you can place the transmission in neutral, but it does nothing extra for safety.Be certain that you disconnect the battery. and place the key in the (on) position to unlock the steering. We used the "Cooltech" wiring harness. and a quick disconnect switch on the battery positive post. this will be the fifth year we have been towing this way. no problems.Long trips where I have any doubt I might be required to back up, I load it on a car hauler and stop worrying

"10forty2".....The Jeep Wrangler is probably one of the best toads you can buy for RVing. It's large enough to be comfortable, easy to get into towing mode and weighs in light enough that most gassers can tow it.With that said, if you're going to use it as a daily driver, make sure you know that it can be noisier than a regular passenger car. Most aren't bothered by that, just make sure you aren't.
