I scoured the forum to figure out how to clear a toilet clog last weekend. Sadly nothing worked so we ended up taking the coach to the dealer. They found a bunch of paper towels, a paper towel roll and "something hard plastic like a toy" stuffed into the pipe leading to the holding tank. REALLY????!!!! We went to and used the coach as a volunteer RV support site at a popular race recently. Only co-workers used it, but apparently folks - even educated ones - don't know enough to NOT put anything other than TP in an RV toilet. First, I will never offer my RV again for this (it cost us over $300.00 to get fixed) and second, I'm posting signs and doing a lecture before allowing anyone who comes camping with us to use the RV toilet! So disappointing... Hope none of you ever have to deal with a situation like this. Or maybe you have...what did you do to educate your guests and did you tell the offender who caused a problem? (we have a pretty good idea who it was)

My friend was replacing his son's toilet, and was very careful to place a rag over the open fitting in the floor while working. He called his son later to ask how it was working. He said he had to remove the toilet, and found a tape measure under it in the piping (at home) and removed it, reinstalled and works great now. Probably the grandson dropped it down the pipe while granpa was out of the room. It can happen. But a roll of paper towles?I don't think you need to causion all the future visitors to not take in a roll of paper towels into the RV restroom. Just not leave it unsupervised in the future.Lesson learned, but it only cost $300. In 10 years, you might still recall the event, but will forget about the cost. A tire blowout or awning repair might run closer to $1,000.Have fun camping!Fred.

We only allow experienced and current rv owners to use our potty or if we have uneducated guests, they receive a 5 min lecture on the care and feeding of the toilet/black tank system. I would never, never, never allow anyone (regardless of experience) use my mh without me being present. Period.Ron

beckidThat is horrible. There you were just trying to help out and you end up with the problem and cost. As others have said an RV is just something that should never be loaned out to anyone. If I have the opportunity to do the same thing I will remember this story and then "just say no"Thanks

Visit you local marine store - there are several catchy signs to communicate the message.

8 years of fulltiming and never a problem with our toilet.
One week with a teenaged g-daughter and weeks of dumping problems following that week.
And she got the lecture before here first use. They don't listen.

I would NEVER think to ask to use someone's and would not expect anyone to ask to use ours! We have a dog that does not do well with strangers in the RV (extremely old and can't see/hear very well) so we seldom even let anyone inside the RV but us. Just too hard on him. This story did put a smile on my face though!

Many things that are second nature to the experienced owner are totally off the radar for the uninformed guest. If you use the motorhome for a public function or loan it prepare for some heavy use and repairs perhaps.

We have trouble with our house toilet after the grand kids visited....I had to take it off the seal....and some how one of those yellow rubber duckies tried to escape down the toilet!! Imagine that...grand kids swear they didn't do it...and darn if I can figure out how that thing got that far into the toilet either!!

Your lucky that it only cost $300! You could have easly tripled that. No outsiders use our toilet, just those in the know. And they need to be trained!!!

You know what, I don't care if the person knows how an RV toilet works or not, whomever did that was doing harm and I think they knew it. I mean, come on a whole paper towel thingie..... :S
