Tow Dolly Wiring

We just bought a new tow dolly. We have a Hydralift for my bike and due to that the 7 blade wiring connection on the motorhome is about 1 and 1/2 feet in from the tow attachment. We went to connect the wire from the Tow Dolly and are about 6 inches short. I have been looking online as well at some RV stores and can't find anything in the way of an extension for 7 blade male to 7 blade female. There are of course tons of adapters to 7 pin or 4 pin, but nothing I have found in the way of an extension. Has anyone seen an extension or is it just going to be easier for me to get the parts and make it myself?
Thanks.
  • /\ /\ /\ What he stated.

Magnetic mount lights are an inexpensive way to protect your ride and provide better visibility at dusk to oncoming drivers.
  • I use the magnetic mount lights with mine as I have seen WAY too many dolly lights not working/broken/missing/damaged. That and it seems like 75% of the times it is difficult if not impossible to see the dolly lights due to being blocked from view by the towed or being too low to see easily.
Yikes! I see what you mean by over priced.
  • Thanks for all the advice on this topic. The trailer has electric brakes. That why it is a 7 blade connection. I think I will just make my own like some of you suggested. Another question along the same lines. Are the turn signals and brake lights on the trailer sufficient or is it recommended to also have the magnetic brake lights and turn signals on the back the car we are towing. I only ask because I saw someone else with an RV driving by me that had both.
    Thanks.
  • I would simply splice a 12", 7 wire extension to the existing wire. You can get a waterproof shrink tube to cover the splice.
Of course the proper way is to replace the entire length of the wire with proper length but I see nothing wrong with splicing it properly.
  • Pricey extension.
    Extension cable
This requires more work but is permanent.
    Replacement cable
Surprised that your dolly has 7 wire cable. Is all used or did previous owner just put a seven pin connector on dolly? Does it have electric brakes? Amber turn signals?
  • Just get the 7 pin male and female and make your own extension cord. Make it longer than needed just in case. 12" rather than 6"
