Towing a 2014 F150

Does anyone know if setting our F150 up to flat will affect our warranty with Ford?
  • Thank you everyone for your response. I have contacted Ford and they confirmed the warranty will not be affected.
  • I've got a 2012 Ford F-150 and it has been covered under warranty. As several others have stated, it is designed to tow 4 down.

As far as the brake system is concerned, a modification won't void a warranty unless an automaker or a dealer can prove that an aftermarket part caused the need for repairs. That's Federal law.

The Magnuson-Moss warranty act is a federal law enacted in 1975 that makes it illegal for auto manufacturers (or any manufacturer of consumer products, for that matter) to void a warranty simply because the owner of the vehicle adds an after-market product to a vehicle. The law states that manufacturers have to repair a vehicle problem UNLESS they can prove the problem was caused by an after-market part.
  • FLYACAT: People who don't tow simply don't know. Never occurs to them. However...the Ford guy SHOULD have researched it while you waited....and given you an answer. That research should not take more than 5 minits...most of it is right there in the owners manual.
  • We have been flat towing a 2014 F150 since January and have had it back to the dealer for at least one warranty repair (not related to drive train) and it was never an issue.
  • Thank you for your response. I do plan on contacting Ford as well, although when we spoke to the service manager at a Ford dealer he did not even know it could be flat towed and he owned one. Makes one wonder.
  • The only way to know for sure is to contact Ford... When I set up our 2012 F250 which included an M&G brake system which inserts a module between the Vacuum boost and the master cylinder and also required relocating radiator overflow tank did not affect our warranty. The vacuum boost pump was replaced under warranty.

  • According to the owners manual the truck can be towed flat and describes the steps to put it into flat tow mode. I was just concerned that since the brake system must be tapped into that it could affect the warranty. Just wondering if anyone has run into any type of warranty issues, regardless of the make, after setting their vehicle to tow?
  • If the owners manual that came with the truck says it can be towed and says how to do so, and if you do it in accordance with the book I do not think it will affect the warranty at all.in fact there is a law that basically says that. It might be the maggassan act or something similar
