I'd rather go 18' than 16', but I'm having the trailer made just for the quads. 16' is as long as the guy can go without putting a second axle on it and surge brakes. So that extra two feet adds $1000 to the price. I haven't placed the order yet because I'm still looking at other options.
Honestly, for $1,000 to get another couple feet, a second axle plus surge brakes.. that doesn't seem so bad. But of course if $1,000 puts it over your price range then it's over your price range. - msmith1199Explorer III'd rather go 18' than 16', but I'm having the trailer made just for the quads. 16' is as long as the guy can go without putting a second axle on it and surge brakes. - hotjag1Explorer IImssmith...The RZR is 9' long, and the 2 door Tracker is 11'6" long.
I only have a couple of inches between the 2 vehicles and a couple of inches between the Geo's bumper and the rear door. I use the E-track tie down system so that neither vehicle can move during transport.
The nice thing is that the small Tracker leaves plenty of room to open the doors and be able to walk around both sides of the vehicles.
I purposely bought the "2 door" Tracker because I knew it would fit end to end with the RZR, and I can tow it 4 down if I don't want to take the trailer.
It sounds like a 16 footer would work for you, but an 18 would leave room for extra tires and tool box. Just a thought.
On edit...the Tracker may be closer to 12', but it all fits with a couple inches to spare. - msmith1199Explorer II

Read it again please.

- msmith1199Explorer IIHotjag, I'm still trying to figure out how you get a RZR and a Tracker to fit in 22' end to end? I have two quads. One is a two seater and the other a single seater. I'm looking to have a narrow flatbed trailer built for them with a ramp and the rear and long enough to put them end to end. The two seater is 8 foot long and the single is 7 foot long. So I need at least a 16 foot trailer to get both on end to end and tie them down. I've never measured a Tracker but that thing must be really short.
- hotjag1Explorer III tow a 22' enclosed trailer and have hauled my GMC Safari mini-van and a Polaris RZR side by side ATV in it. I had to winch the front of the RZR up to the roof of the trailer and then use a floor jack to turn it sideways in order to have enough room for the mini-van.
That proved to be too much work unless I was going on a long trip(south for the winter). I also have a 2 door Geo Tracker and it will fit end to end with the RZR. No more winching and floor jacks.
I can also use the Tracker to move the trailer if necessary, although I have only had to do that once in Santa Barbara, CA. If you have been to Santa Barbara, no more explanation is needed...Lol
My point is that with a 22' trailer, I would think a Harley positioned slightly sideways would allow for a small to medium SUV to fit in behind the Harley. - 1BryNelsonExplorerI like the idea of being able to get bike out through a side door, the idea of the ability to move trailer with Toad is a good one. I've only RV'ed in SW US, but from what I've seen most places would have a storeage yard if you wanted to stash trailer away from RV spot. Good luck.
- creeperExplorerMy buddy does exactly that twice a year to bike week. A car with 2 Harley's . He puts a wireless camera in the trailer so he can watch the bikes and cars. It's cheap insurance. If one breaks lose it can cause lots of damage to all. Each stop Check the tie downs.

This spring we decided to buy a Ford F-150 4x4 which is flat towable and haul the trike in the truck when we wanted to take it. Had to buy long aluminum ramps to get the trike in the pickup but they work great. Just sayin'.
I see more and more people doing this. Flat tow a fullsize truck with something in the bed of the truck.
I will eventually be facing the same dilemma. There are hitch mounted racks that can accommodate a bike. But, you better have a large DP with rear axle capacity. I might want to tow a Jeep JK that is set up for off roading. Then the flat tow with the bike in the back would not be an option.
Having a large enclosed trailer to deal with everywhere I went would not be my first option. I tow a 23' toy hauler behind my 35' motorhome now. It is just too big. The only time I ventured into a campground looking for a dump, I side swiped a truck parked off the side of the road. Campgrounds are just not set up for 65' long vehicles. But, no problems towing to the desert. Plenty of room out there.
Good luck.
