Towing Ford Edge

Would like to hear from people eho tow a Ford Edge behind a 31 foot C Class V6 F450
Is this too heavy of a vehicle to comfortably tow especially through the mountains
  • We have been very happy towing our Edge which has an automatic transmission. Just turn on the key, put the transmission in neutral then turn off the key, but leave the key in the ignition to unlock the steering wheel. It does not accumulate mileage while being towed because it has an electronic odometer. However, that is only the case with our year Edge. That may not be the case with your Edge. What does your rv owner's manual have to say about the weight you can tow? And what does the owner's manual for your Edge instruct you about towing?
  • I enjoy my Ford Edge a lot.

I installed a custom braking system, it consists of a cruise control motor, vacuum line from my motorhome engine, and the brakes are applied when the RV brake lights come on, it applys vacuum to the second cruise control motor, it pulls a cable that is attached to the firewall and brake pedal arm. $45 braking system. Sure beats the $1,200 systems.

    Fred.
  • I towed an Edge for 3 years and am now towing a Flex (heavier than the Edge), I've never had any problems with either one.

I have a 30ft class C with the Ford V10, we have 60,000 miles on the MH now and at least half of that was towing. We live in Ontario and have been to the east coast, west coast, and most southern states.

It won't win any races but does climb hills at a respectable speed.
  • Has anyone solved the problem of battery drain on the ford edge when towing? I have a 2012 FWD ford edge that loses battery juice after a prolonged towed even when I follow the manual instructions. I have called numerous ford dealers with only stupid on the other end of the line. I am looking for a simple solution although there may not be one.
