TPMS in Class A Motorhomes

I think every Class A motorhome should have a TPMS. All motorhomes, for that matter. From my reading, it seems that no model of motorhome comes with TPMS from the factory. True? Do many of you folks add this feature to your RV?

It seems bizarre to me that U.S. govt requires this feature in garden variety SUVs but not motorhomes. I've had it in the last 2 SUV's I've bought, finding that it adds meaningfully to peace of mind.

There must be some logical explanation for this. Or is there?

I installed the TireSafeGuard system in my Class C, but the best I have been able to do thus far is get 4 out of 6 tires to be free of air leaking, due to faulty valve stem extensions and the seals to the TPMS sensors. At least, one gets a rapid and accurate indication that the leaking is occurring!

  • I agree that ALL motorhomes should have a TPMS as standard equipment. Best upgrade to our coach we have done.

We bought our Truck Systems Technology 507 system about four years ago and have never had an air leak issue. Has worked flawlessly since new.
  • I see no reason for the government to get more involved in my RV experience then they are. What happened to pre trip inspection and checking your tire pressure during and after your travel? It would seem to me this system is designed for drivers that don't do the proper maintenance or pre trip checks. I would never depend on a government mandated gadget for my safety. JMHO.
  • It is becoming more and more common to see these added as a dealer option. I am not sure if the factories are offering them as an option yet but they soon will.

Many people are adding these themselves.

    Vin.
  • I have the TST TPMS installed on our coach and toad, and haven't had any issues with sensor leaks. I have been alerted to a tire puncture and a sticking brake caliper though. The NHTSA TPMS regulation only requires TPMS' on vehicles under 10,000 lbs without dual wheels. Unless that requirement changes, I wouldn't expect to see them on other size vehicles as standard equipment unless there's enough customer demand.
