Trading up to Diesel

We have been rving for 10 years with 2different class a motorhomes. This year we have decided to trade up to a diesel pusher. I would be very happy with any advice you may have from motor size to questions to ask dealers. All suggestions from experienced people are helpful.

  • When you find the motorhome that has the floor plan and amenities that you are looking for, look at the tire date codes, age of batteries and maintenance records.

A very low mileage unit in a diesel may not be the jewel that you think it will be for the drive-train. Diesels liked to be run so their parts can be lubricated; same for the diesel generator. A very well kept unit that has been driven 6K-10K a year is not bad.

A well kept 100,000 mile, 10 yr. old unit, that is very clean could be a good find. Again, it's all about maintenance.

    Good luck,
    MM.
  • get as much horsepower as you can afford ! depending on the coach of course but IMO 350 HP is the absolute minimum & 400+ would be preferred. don't rule out front engine conversions ;)

You're going to have to give us more info:
    1: new or used
    2. Budget
    3. Usage/expectations. Full time/half time/vacations & weekends
    4. Couple or also children.
  • It depends on what you plan to do with your Motorhome. Fulltime, vacations, weekend trips.

We got ours to fulltime, which we did for 8 years. Now we call ourselves halftimers.
