Trip to northwest

We are planning a trip out west this summer. We will be in Indiana for the Coachmen Rally. We want go up thru Michigan and take
Route 2 over to Washington state. Then come down into California and
to Reno. From there to Victor ID. Then down to Colorado Springs and head back to PA. My question is traveling Route 2. Are there any issues with This route? We have a 35 FT coachmen Mirada Class A.
We will be Taking 7 weeks for trip.

  • We went across the country on Highway 2 in August several years ago. Very nice.

We were in our current coach pulling a toad.
  • The reason for going out the north route is we have family in Reno NV and Colorado Springs. They will be in Florida until early August. The DW wants to fish in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, also as many lakes along the way as possible.
  • If I were doing that trip, I'd drift south at the beginning of the trip and head north as summer progresses. Remember, that most of California is a desert. Think Death Valley.

Taking I-5 up into Oregon and Western Washington (where I was born) is interesting and it's cooler then down south. Taking 2 east at the end of summer can be fairly comfortable...temp and weatherwise. US2 in North Dakota is sparse people wise but there are some fun places to stop along the way. Several bars with food have little RV parks out back.

Dipping your toes into the lakes is kinda fun too then because the water is fairly warm at the end of summer.
  • We've done Hwy 2 from Michigan quite a few times. It's a nice relaxing drive - no issues to worry about except drive on the top 1/2 of your tank. Don't wait until almost empty.

In Montana be sure to plan a stop at Fort Peck Corp of Engineer park. It has huge grassy sites and some trees - very pleasant. When heading out you'll soon realize why Montana is called 'Big Sky Country'! Enjoy your trip. Sounds good.
  • That sounds like a very nice trip...As long as time is not a factor you will see much more than being on interstate system.
  • 2 is a good scenic drive. But CA and going back to ID sure looks like a lot of back tracking. Are you sure you doint want to stop in ID and then head west?
