Turn Signal Flasher E450

Has anyone here replaced their signal flasher with a louder unit on their E450 (maybe the 350 is the same) ? Can you tell me what it took to do the job ? Where is the flasher located ?

Thanks be to the guy who figured it out in the first place. I'm shocked I could find it in my browser bookmarks!

You could probably substitute an electronic "chime" or some other interesting sound. Our boat has a very expensive little warning buzzer from MerCruiser. I ended up replacing it with a Radio Shack "siren" at a fraction of the price.

GLAD to help, always! That's what a Forum's about.
  • Did the mod JD linked to, worked fine. If I did it again I'd move the buzzer up behind the knee panel.

    Thank JD.
  • The flasher is high up above the brake pedal on our 2004 E350.
  • I had that problem and bought a beeper at Radio Shack (about 1 inch diameter) and wired it into the flasher. Worked great.

Here's an Approach to getting it louder. I don't mind looking down at the dash to see if the turn signal indicators are blinking, but on at least our 2002 chassis, they're too low and too small.
I was going to do the mod noted here, then I decided to add truck turn signal lamps to our mirror arms. We have the tubular tripod type with plain metal mirror heads, not the single-arm Velvac mirrors. With the turn signal lights, it's plenty easy to see them blink in daylight so I didn't add the piezo buzzer.
