tv receptacle problem

I have a greyhawk (2009) that has a dead receptacle at the TV. This is the one that a 12 volt capability. Volt tester shows nothing on 110 or 12 volt. It is hooked to shore power. every thing else works. Ground appears OK. Any clues???? Thanks....bumper jack
  • One other thing....if you look on EBay, you will find a lot of PowerTek's for sale, and you can get an idea to see if that is what you have. You can also find the instructions on the Internet. Some of those state that the 110 power is activated by a 12 volt relay, so you may wish to check to see that the 12 volt wire is getting power, otherwise, the 110 outlet is not being activated. You can test the 12 volt input by running a test wire directly to the battery, or a vacant slot on the 12 volt side of the electrical panel (not while generator running or hooked up to shore power)
  • It sounds from your description of the wall plate like you have a PowerTek TV power/controller (could be model RL-1003). This device disables power to the outlet when the ignition switch is on or when the motorhome is being driven. This is to disable the tv when underway so the tv is not viewable to the driver. It may no longer have the label on the front, but you can readily recognize it by the dark brown wall plate, and the small plastic box with several wires coming out the back. If you are working on this, please make sure the ignition is off.
  • It appears that I don't know enough to ask an understandable question. For that, I am sorry, and I do appreciate your patience. First, let me start with all your suggestions: As far as fuses, I have checked all fuses and breakers in the panel. (as far as the push in 12 volt fuses, they all look good but I changed the one for the tv receptacle anyway. Still dead. Could there be an in line fuse somewhere? Wires in receptacle box appear to be secure. This unit only has one GFI test/reset button & it's in the bathroom. There is one more connected to the GFI inside and two more in storage compartments outside. All were checked with a tester and all showed hot. Don't believe this is problem. When I referred to the receptacle as 110 and 12 volt capable, I may have confused everything. I believe I read somewhere that if I wasn't hooked to 110 AC I could play the TV off the battery thru the same receptacle if the ignition was off. However I can't find that now so I may have dreamed it (Hell, I'm old). That may be true IF I have the inverter ON. (Help me out here). One thing that confuses me further is there is a small match box size gizmo sealed to the back of the otherwise ordinary receptacle. It's not a cigar lighter type, it's just an ordinary looking receptacle except as noted. I have no power of any kind to this receptacle & this is a dedicated TV receptacle. I have been hooked up to shore power through all my testing. Thanks again to all who replied. If you still don't understand try me again with any questions. Oh yes, I think my profile info was wrong on original post, I no longer have the 5th wheel, now it's a class C. Jack
  • Ours is also powered from the 1,000 watt inverter. What is the status of your inverter?

It sounds like he's describing what I have, a 120v recepticle, & right next to it, a 12V "cigarette lighter" type recepticle, I have no idea why you would loose power to both at the same time as they are on completely separate circuits.

I am confused with your description. Is this a 120VAC receptacle or a 12vDC Socket.

If it is a 120VAC receptacle it is most likely one of those pinch wire receptacles. These have the hot wires pushed into a knife slot which cuts through the insulation and touches the copper portion of the wires. These are almost one time use receptacles... If you move the wire that has been creased by the knife it may break the wire into..

You also should check the GFCI receptacles and make none of them has not tripped... These are the 120VAC receptacles that has a push button in the center of it... One being tripped may also kill power to several other ones down the same line.

My big trailer has three of these inside the trtailer.... My POPUP has only one...

  • 12V DC is FUSED.......

Check for blown fuse in your DC Dist Panel where all the other fused circuits are.

    No blown fuse....
Pull receptacle and check wiring connections on backside
