upgrading the roof vent van

I have looked at a couple of replacements for the roof vent fan. The manufactures with the thermostat, although that's a good option, start around two hundred or so. I have seen this simple one for 80 bucks. Has anybody ever used it.

  • i installed a maxxaire type of fan/housing that mounted with L brackets to the edges of the vent. no drilling into roof. also fan motor was back and away from the opening and the fan could be run in the rain.
    bumpy
  • Helped my daughter install those in her truck camper. As stated, they are pretty noisy.
  • Really I'd be curious to the cfm of air movement per second between the two. While the size of the fan blade can matter, it's not everything. There is also the speed factor.

The larger fan will "feel" more powerful primarily because of the shroud of plastic around the fan that without it, one would not tell much difference.

Also to consider, who says you always want the fan on.... Perhaps just an "open vent" would be nice, and that's where the shroud of plastic is the problem.

Hard to say really... I suppose it depends on how one will use the coach.
  • Just go to the HERE link by IAMICHABOD folks, it will explain everything, and answer most all of your and my questions on this product. Don!t hash it over here any more. Read the link. Thank you very much for the reply.
  • Yes, I installed that very fan. Very simple to install, been using it for years and it works great. The only issue is it is a little noisy. However, it is in the bathroom and we use it primarily when showering, so a little noise is ok.
  • Not wanting to tear into the roof like I did with the Fantastic Fan I chose to put a VORTEX fan in the bathroom,It is a snap to do with very detailed instructions and it is multi speed and reversible.

Here is an earlier post that is really helpful.
