Upstate NY, any suggestions?

My wife and I returned from what we hope will be the first of many winter adventures to the south. We were gone for 4 months and had a blast. After we got home I made an appointment with my eye doctor. Things seemed a bit blurry. Turns out I have double cataracts and can't even drive legally. So our plan to spend June in upstate NY was scrapped. Not a great idea to crank down the highway with 30,000 lbs. behind you when you are legally blind! I have 2 surgeries scheduled for July. After that we are going to Europe in August. So new schedule is NY in September.
Does anyone have suggestions for great destinations to visit at that time?
Thanks
  • Try the Tupper Lake area as well, and allow a full day for a visit to the Wild Center while you're there.
  • September will still be very viable as the temps will be moderate. If you are going to be looking for fall foliage colors, you will have to go pretty far north, and I would suggest up and around Lake Placid. There is a lot to do and see as it was the venue for the 1980 Olympics. I would then work my way down through Lake George and Saratoga. Very pretty areas. Lastly good luck with the cataracts, most people do very well afterwards, and they can't believe how well they can see. It will be a great time to be SIGHT-seeing ;)
