US RV to EUROPE

Hello all,
we have a small, 29ft Jayco Precept and we would like to bring it with us when we move to Austria for 3 years. I am very familiar with Europe and their tent-campgrounds, however I have no idea what the RV setup is over there. Does anyone have experience or knowledge how/if an American RV travels well in Europe (Italy, Spain, France...)? Does the power convert well? Are the hookups similar? Do they even have "full-hookup" camp sites?
Any insight or experience would be appreciated. Thank you

  • Off the top I would consider buying an RV in Europe and selling it after three years. The cost of shipping an RV over there would make a good downpayment.
Also, if after a few weeks over there the idea of an RV is no longer appealing you are not out the shipping cost both ways.
  • The power doesn't convert well for things like an RV. You'd need to get a European power converter and install it to deal with 220-240 volts. Your inside AC plugs inside won't fit euro stuff and your fridge is likely to not like having 220 volts put into it.

Those are just a few things that popped into my head.

One way around it is to never plug into an AC source. You could get a good higher power charger/maintainer that runs on 220 and just hook it up to your batteries. You'd have to run the fridge on LP the whole time (which is doable)

Then there's the expense of gasoline.

I'd leave it at home, personally.
