Used but almost new price opinion

The wife and I have been casually looking at Class A motor homes. Since we are mainly weekend warriors due to both of our work schedules, we are looking at used models. We have been going to RV shows the last several years and have pretty much figured out what floor plans we like. We both fell in love with the Newmar Baystar 3401. As far as I know, Newmar has only made this model since 2015 and I don't believe they are going to make this model in 2017. That leaves only 2 years for the used market.

I finally saw a used 2015 at a local dealer that has 4900 miles. I have checked the website for over a week and they still haven't posted a price or listed any of the options. I have searched and found several new 2015 models (leftovers) for around $106,000 +/-. The MSRP of the 3401 ranges from $140,000 to $150,000. I am curious what the forum thinks would be a good price on this used model. I am usually pretty good about researching models and prices but for this model the used sample size is really small (only found one used so far). I am going to call or email the dealer but I was wondering what would be a good % off MRSP for a slightly used model. If it's not a significant discount, I'd rather pay more the New model.

MSRP was 140k, then if the previous owners were savvy enough they got it around $100k. Subtract depreciation and you should be in the neighborhood of $80-90k. I would wonder though why someone traded a brand new unit after 4k miles. Get the VIN and call Newmar to see if any warranty work was done on it. That's likely about all the info you will get on whether it's had work/issues.
  • its USED so you should get a huge discount, and I,d check see if warrenties transfer on paper, remember a sales person will say anything to get a check on pay day.
  • We were shopping for a 34-36 foot coach when we found the 40', and never have been sorry for buying it.
  • First I would use www.nada.com Then I would take the MSRP and deduct say 30% and offer the lower of the two and see what happens. Low ball your offer since it is an older model that is just sitting there and then see what they come back with. DO NOT GET ATTACHED and remember that you can walk away if the deal is not good enough.

Is it listed as used? You as 2nd owner? Or just those miles for transporting plus to and from RV shows? Not unusual to see a few thousand miles on a new MH. Years ago they would disconnect the odometer. I got a MH driven from Indiana to CA with 32 miles. :B

It's listed as used. 4969 miles. The new ones have around 1100 miles on them on the local lots. I don't have any details other than the make, model and miles. There are no pictures or options listed on the website yet. This is a 2015 model (available in 2014) and the 2017 models will be coming out soon.

  • Family members bought a used Tiffin in that same price range; one year old and less than 1,500 miles. Paid around 80-90k as I recall.
