Great job! This is a great forum with a wealth of information.

We are looking into buying a used Class A and our budget is limited (25K). We are looking at models from 2000 onward. 2003 Damon Intruder 373
2002 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 34SBD

I would look at the Bluebird parked next to it.

    There were a great coach.
  • You may want to consider a private sale also. We found our (now sold after 4 years) 2002 Georgetown 32' from an ad in our local newspaper in 2010. The people selling were the buyers from new and had really looked after it well and it only had 11,000 miles on the clock. The 5.5 Kw generator had 44 hours on its time display.

The husband had developed medical problems and was unable to travel. We paid $37,500 for it and sold it 4 years later for $22,000 through a consignment dealer, which I would NEVER do again. It certainly wasn't a Rolls-Royce standard of vehicle, but it served us well.

The only expensive problem we had was a fridge failure that needed replacement. I'd recommend a close look at the fridge in vehicles of the time frame you're considering. The one that died was a Norcold model made in Scandinavia somewhere. It had no variable control of temperature.

Also check the awnings. The rig we bought had been parked for about 18 months with the living room awning deployed, facing south. What I thought was minor fraying on the forward edge was actually an indication the entire awning had rotted out, leaving only the netting which had carried the vinyl. That resulted in my having to build replacement cabinets for the living room in addition to having a replacement awning installed.

  • Welcome to the forum.

CONDITION, is the important factor when buying a used RV. Take your time, don't be in a hurry to buy. Look at everything that interests you.
And, ask lots of questions before you buy anything. Someone on the forum will have an answer.

Water leaks are the big killers of RV's. Look for evidence of leaks, if you don't know what to look for just ask.

Enjoy your search and use it as a learning experience.
  • Let me be the first to welcome you to RV.Net! Demartinirv.com has a very nice Diesel Pusher for $29,000.00 or offer! You could offer them $25,000.00 the coach is a Newmar Dutch Star and is 38' in length lot of bang for the buck for a near 2000 D.P.! Good Luck

In general for used RVs, but most especially at this sort of price point, look at condition above brand and year. A "poorer" motorhome (older or lesser brand or whatever) in great shape will be much more satisfactory than a "better" one that has not been well maintained.

    Absolutely!

Your number one priority is to look for signs of water intrusion. Musty smells, the faintest hint of dampness, any discoloration. Open all the cabinets, drawers, and closets and look hard.

You put together a good list to choose from. Everyone camps differently and has different priorities as to what is important. The Daybreak will have the best overall performance and may have more fresh water storage compared to the others. The Monaco and Admiral I believe have hung walls so they can't delaminate which to me would be important especially for older models. At the age you are looking at how well the MH was maintained would be a higher priority than brand. Good luck in your choice.
  • We have a 2000 Monaco Monarch and have been full-time for 5 1/2 yrs having purchased the coach when it was 10 years old. Our is built well and we are not sorry we purchased this coach. We actually like it better than many of the new ones. There are many items on ours that is standard equipment that is an optional upgrade on other coaches. Pay attention to size of A/C units, furnace, frig, ducted or non-ducted, # of gallons for the water heater (10 gal much better than 6 gal) Does the water heater operate on just propane, or is it gas and/or electric. Heated water tanks for winter (when you use the furnace) quality of the carpet/pad - woodwork, dual pane windows etc. Sometimes there is a big difference.
