V-10 Radiator Reservoir

The coolant reservoir on my '02 Bounder has a crack.
A truck mechanic friend tells me it is not a MAJOR problem, as the radiator has plenty of coolant, just to keep an eye on it.
BUT...really need to resolve it.
It is the big round looking one.
Any ideas where one can be had, or, can I fiberglass it to seal the crack?
Thanks in advance!!
  • If you wind up going to Ford, they can pull up a diagram (picture) of the tank. I verified the picture and they ordered it for me.

    Won't say for certain, but do not believe this tank is pressurized.
  • My 2005 ford V10 reservoir tank was pressurized. I believe the cap was either 14 or 16 pounds. There was no cap on the radiator itself.
  • Car-part.com type in your info and it will give you a list salvage yards in your area. Ford made millions of them. Hou may need to use an E-350 for model, they used that type of overflow. Why by new when used will do.

    This makes sense. My 454 Chevy has a cap on the radiator just like all the cars that I have had in the past, and the tank is just an overflow(no pressure}
  • The overflow tank is not pressurized but it is sealed to the radiator so that when the fluid gets hot and expands, the extra coolant is sent to the overflow tank and when the engine cools down, it sucks the fluid back in to the radiator. Unless you change the radiator cap, the next time the engine gets hot, fluid will be forced out of the radiator and nothing but air will be sucked back in. This air may disrupt the water pump and cause some problems.
    If the old tank has a part number printed on it, then a search of the part number at Rockauto.com should provide a replacement.

    That tank, btw, is pressurized. Had to replace mine from UV damage. They are not cheap....over 100 bucks.
    I think the OP has a gasser, I know mine is not pressurized. You can buy a universal tank replacement at Auto Zone, Napa etc for under $20.

    The V-10 does have a pressurized tank ( and the cap is a pressure cap) --- the tank if not cheap. If you don't fix it and you loose pressure and fluid you will over heat and the engine will drop into limp mode.
  • Not so much a reservoir, as it is a remotely located header tank for the radiator, and it is under pressure.

    Not sure of the part used on the F-53, but I know the tank is the same part on my 5.4 V-8 E-350 as it is on my 6.8 V-10 E-450. Would not be surprised to see the same tank in a pickup, so the replacement part (or even a junkyard part) may not be hard to find.
