That seems to be a story told by service managers when they don't know why and don't want to know in order to cut down on warranty work. If my V-10 used a quart in 2500 miles, I would be worried. These engines are NOT oil burners. Should not use that much oil. Something is wrong! My V-10 with 87,000 miles on it does not use oil in between 4000 mile oil changes! I had a new Olds with 23,00 that used 2 quarts in 3000 miles, with a screwed up service manager telling me that was normal. He did not want to replace the motor on warranty. He had been telling me that before I got to 23,000 miles. After he finally got fired because so many people were complaining about his lies and inability to truthfully resolve problems, a new service manager took over. He called me and told me to bring the car in and they would replace the motor.
