- ferndaleflyerExplorer IIIMy Dad and all of his brothers,5 of them, were in WW2. Myself and 3 of my Brothers served later. Brothers in Vietnam. I had already done 4 years and got out but ended up working over there and got shot TWICE. Son has served now and did 8 trips to Iraq.....We did our part I think......Its sad the shape we are in today with no respect from these little flea countries like Iran. You know what happened to Japan after the bombs fell----our country now has no stomach for war. But don't take away their Starbucks!!!!!!

Very well said Flyer! My Grandfather was in the Army WW1, my Dad Navy WW2, and me U.S. Marines Vietnam 1969. It seems to me were the only Country that fights for Freedom around the World. When, I was in Vietnam we went on a Operation "Harvest Moon" with the Korean Marines. I never see anyone from Canada or Mexico? I have a hard time when I'm in Lake Havasu City, AZ. and people there from Canada are flying there flags on there RV's etc. in the home of the brave and the land of the free and they gave nothing!
I would have expected more response on here....from another Veteran thanks to the rest of you.....Lots of people don't think its their problem.....remember "all gave some and some gave all". But some---GAVE NOTHING! - kiloo9ExplorerFrom a Vietnam veteran 68-69 101 Airborne, Welcome home brothers and sisters, thank you for your service, God bless you.
Had the opportunity to attend a Veterans Day celebration at my grand son's school. The complete class of 5th graders did a memorable presentation. What a way to teach our kids what patriotism is all about. God bless America - bigred1cavExplorer

Those kind of things are so cool. I try to say thank you to those that I can identify as past or present servicemen and women. It is very pleasant change when wearing a Marine hat to have someone tell me thank you as it is much different than at the end of Vietnam when I was in.
This coming Christmas season many young GI's are given leave and as a condition go to Mall's and walk around. I always offer to buy them a coke or coffee and talk with them. I also try to take the I'm invincible attitude off them and say just stay low don't try to be e hero, that will come. MOST OF ALL come home to your parents and loved ones. All the medals and awards in the world hanging in a shadow box will not comfort your mother if you get dead. Yes I'm ate up with PTSD/survivors remorse. - bigred1cavExplorerwelcome home gi's

- JimM68ExplorerThank you all.
I had the coolest experience yesterday...
I was driving out of the city on my way home from work, and I got a text that just said "thank you."
It was from my youngest niece (18)
Out of everyone in my family, she in the only one who thought of ME on veterans day. - J-RoosterExplorer
