Voltage at the pedestal

Looks like the end of our six week trip has me asking all sorts of questions.

1. The voltage at our pedestal, according to our Surge Guard, shows 114 volts and 16 amps. Is this a threat to our air conditioner?

2. I'm using the LP for hot water. I tried switching the refrigerator (a Norcold) to LP, but got an "F" on the display panel. I assume that means there's a fault, so I've switched it back to the electric mode. The refrigerator is turned off when we drive and then we use the sites electricity to run it. The site is dead level fore and aft and port and starboard.

Thanks again,
Chris
  • The 16 amps you were reading is based on the electrical equipment that is drawing power at that particular moment. When the air conditioner compressor first starts it will draw higher amp then reduce some after it gets going. It's interesting to see how many amps different things draw i.e. the microwave, lights, AC, TV, etc.

  • 120 volts +- 10% is acceptable.
Outside that range you're likely to damage motors and other electronics.
  • Voltage at the pedestal is a good thing to watch, especially on weekends when campgrounds are full and hot out. I have read that as long as voltage underway remains above 110 there should be no problem.
I was experiencing low voltage (below 110) last summer. After researching, I purchased a Hughes Autoformer. Since then, my voltage never drops below 115. Best $500 I have spent on the camper.
  • 114 is okay? Thanks. With regard to my question about the refrigerator. I had a senior moment and didn't read the manual. There was air in the gas line. It's running on LP now.

Big thanks to all of you on this forum.
