Recently started using The Splendide 2000 washer/vented dryer in the 2000 Ultimate Advantage. Water started draining from washer, toilet made sounds, vacuum breaker behind toilet blew, lifted the lid, 10 inches from HELL coming up. Ran out and opened Black valve and stood there wondering. Why would a company plumb a washer to drain into black tank? The Splendide is one of those maybe wash everyday one load. I have to have the valve open or pressure builds up and I don't want to find out what could happen. Grey tank I like to have open, but can't have both a same time. Should I investigate how to swing drain into grey drain line to grey tank?

Washer drain going to black tank although not ideal it is most likely due to plumbing arrangement and the idea that more water in black tank is a good thing.I would be more concerned in WHY tank pressurized............that means tank vent is blocked. Either because it has fallen down and bottom is under water and can't vent OR something (birds nest etc) is in vent pipe obstructing it.Tanks HAVE to ventAnd WHY do yo HAVE to have grey tank drain valve open?Just a word of caution:NEVER leave your black tank drain open or you will end up with a POOP Pyramid. Not fun.....hard to get rid of(ever look down into a vault toilet/an outhouse............huge pile of poop---that is what you would see thru your toilet)

From what you described, I would like the idea of the washer draining into the black tank, and it will keep it really clean and rinsed out well.But as you also described, you must open the black tank when washing. Your grey tank should hold at least 1 day's worth of water. I used to live in my RV with a 42 gallon grey tank, and would put away my sewer tank hose on freezing nights, only pull it out once a week to drain the grey tank, while at the same time I would refill my fresh water tank.Check CampingWorld.com and check for sewer products, and then look for a tee that will allow your main sewer hose and a garden hose into the same fitting. Then you can put a cap on your grey only line, and run a garden hose to the sewer line. A washer fill line (with two female fittings on it) and a 25' long green garden hose (so you don't accidentally use it to fill the fresh water tank once it is dirty) will complete your set up. Then you could drain the grey tank with the garden hose into the already in place black tank drain hose fitting. Personally, I would leave the black tank valve closed until after you are ready to start the washer, and then only leave it open as long as you are doing laundry. I would also put a sign on the washer - open tank valve. Another on the dryer, close tank valve (when dryer is done). Yes leaving the black tank open all the time will lead to only the water going down the drain, the remaining becoming solids inside the tank that will be really difficult to remove. Think of it as 'Poop Cracker' on the bottom of the tank, that can dry out if you let it.Have fun camping!Fred.

There is NO rule or Code that states ONLY Black Water must go to the Black tank. The probable reason the Check valve blew up, is because when the washer drained the Black tank which was already pretty full, then was completely full and the only relief from the pressure was that tank valve and then the toilet seal. For me it just does not make sense to route the washer drain into the black tank, exactly for the reason you encountered. Ours goes to the grey tank. And I leave the grey tank valve open when camped unless I need to build up some volume prior to draining the black tank. At least if I forget and leave the grey tank valve closed and run the washer, the worst that will happen is grey water will back up in the shower rather than black water up thru the toilet or toilet vent.Probably just easier and cheaper for them to route it to the black tank in your case.

Some of you seem to think, that if any Holding tank overfills and then the water is pushing up, that there is NO pressure. WRONG. As someone who has done this (fresh water on preps thankfully) a few times over the years, you would be amazed at how much force(pressure) is exerted on the tank/fittings above the tank BEFORE the water travels all the way up that 1.5 inch vent pipe to the roof. Remember, (I had the black tank flush on(45 psi), but the OP had the washer drain pump pumping water into the tank, and THAT exerts pressure. So, it is NOT uncommon when you overfill a black tank, for the water to have pressure before the water finally makes it to the roof vent and out the top on the roof. You open the Toilet and it is indeed going to spray/force the water out that larger hole you just created. Doug

I would not mind if the WD went to the black tank as it usually has a lot less water over the same time period. That said, I have two 75 gallon tanks and some coaches have a smaller black tank that also could make a difference.

On the pressurization, most likely a blocked vent.

as others have said you should not have to open the drain to use the washer no no no . these tanks are not sealed ! they have a plastic pipe that runs from the top of the tank to the roof, the Vent. Something is wrong with that piping! If its blocked it will also will cause odors to fill your coach. Fix the piping.
As far as plumbing washer to black tank .. My black tank takes forever to fill compared to the grey .. I would welcome the washer going into that tank for reasons already stated.

I tough that in case of overfilled tanks the excess goes over roof vent. :B

I'm with Old-Biscuit and would check you're roof vent. There is not a reason that the tank should pressurize if the venting is working.
