Washer/Dryer doors won't stay open

Both DW and I do battle with the washer dryer doors which insist on swinging closed when we are transferring the wash from the washer to the dryer or for that matter anytime we are loading/unloading the machines.

The coach is level. For that matter the problem persists when we are a little off level in either direction as measured by the bathroom door swinging either open or closed and by a bubble level.

Has anyone dealt with this problem? Did you find a solution you could share?

Information on our coach is in the signature, the W/D are stacked Splendid machines in the back of the coach facing the front.
  • When I worked for an Ultra Sound mfg company we'd use a 1 x 1 plastic stick-um tab with a raised eyelet on one side for zip ties to be attached. Maybe a string with a modified paper clip attached ..... kind of simple but creative. Stick one tab on the door and the other on a close by cabinet/drawer?
  • I like all the ideas I am getting. Been working on the bungee cord idea. Magnets? now there is an interesting thought. I'll have to look into that. Tonight we are in a slightly unlevel site, PS is high and doors are nicely balanced neither opening nor closing. Need to double check the bubble before we break camp in the morning.

String, Magnet (Get one from Radio Shack) handy spot to the hinge side of the door,, Tie and stick the magnet to the door.

If you hae a handy metal spot hinge side you can use two magnets and a single wrap of tape to keep from marring things.
  • My guess is their designed that way so they will close if left open. Refrigerators are often designed that way too as long as the door doesn't swing past 90 degrees. If it's that big of an issue just rig up a bungee cord to keep them open.
  • Maybe a Bungie cord while loading, even if you get it level the next stop maybe uneven or coach will settle over time.
  • OP here: I just double checked the units and they are less than half bubble off center. I showed DW what I need to do to try to improve the situation and she agreed it really isn't worth it. I will be the designated door holder.

The next time we setup on firm ground or pavement I will tip us half buble PS up and see it that helps.

Tried to use velcro to hold the doors open against the cabinet frame, but there is not enough overlap to get a reasonable grip :(
  • The UNITS are level...it's the DOORS that are skewed. The are simply out of plumb. Check the level of the units. Once they are level, simply loosen the door screws slightly and adjust them so they function as you want them, then tighten the screws....easy....Dennis
  • Put a bubble level on them. I'll bet dollars to donuts you will find them un-level.
