Water Water Everywhere

Setup RV at campground and went out for a while and when we returned water was running out from under the RV. The valve was in the coach use position not in the tank fill position and the fresh water tank was full. My question is do these plastic valves fail or leak ? Also when the water is turned off at the campground tap and we try to use the in house water pump it runs all the time. I had spare pump and changed out the pump. Same the thing happens the pump runs all the time. So I am thinking its the valve (city fill/tank fill). Are the two connected ? So the only way to get water in the coach is to turn on the pump that runs nonstop. I don't want to burn up the pump.

  • IF the 'fill' valve is bad the pump will just 'round robin'.....suck water out of fresh water tank, flow thru cold plumbing lines back to water panel thru fill valve and back to tank. Doing so it can't build up enough line pressure so pump pressure switch can open and turn pump off.

    Same thing as a leak..
  • Plastic valves or any valve can leak through, but if the pump is constantly running I would think that there is a leak somewhere calling for the pump to run. I would start looking for the leak first. Might be just a valve that was left in the wrong position. JMT
  • The Motorhome has been use for ten years full time and I always use a water pressure valve. All was fine this AM when we moved to a new campground.

My previous coach was a 2003 Winnebago. The fill valve label never made sense to me, but when I was filling the tank the water pump would run continuously if the switch was on. That's not the case on my current coach.
  • I would first check both "Low point drain" valves to see if they were left open during winterizing. If open, close them and then run the pump and purge the air from all faucets.
  • You may have toooooo much water pressure and it was forcing past the valve.
