Web Attack(s)

Last year, we stayed at 2 RV parks run by SUN. One was good...the other OK but needs some work.

Looking to "expand our horizons" so to speak, I accessed "Sun RV Resorts" and "Sun RV Campgrounds".

My NORTON would not let me in either one....gave me a pop up both times that there was a "web attack" coming from these sites.

Nasty stuff embedded. Just my experience...FWIW. Anyone else having this?

Ok, many, sites, this one included, are supported by Ads.. Usually via Google Lead Services, but not always

What they do is give Google, or some other ad service permission to put ads on their web site,, For example.. I recently did a Search on a couple of products for the benefit of another forum member and yet another search for a product delivered to me... Yesterday.. now when I go to ad supported pages where my blockers don't work I get page after page of ads for those products.

Well, I also get other ads for stuff I'm not at all interested in.. Like Mal-ware

For example I've occasionally hit an Ad that locks up my computer.. Oh, I know how to get past it but ideally I'm supposed to call an 800 number and they talk me through it, in exchange for money.... Totally illegal (Ransom ware it is called) and other web pages you click on the ad and you end up with a bunch of infections that take you and your anti-mal ware (Norton in your case) a good long time to clean off your drive.

But it is the supporting advertisers,, NOT the page host, that are doing it.
Eventually Sun Resorts, or HamData or _____ dientifies the specific ads that cause this and block them.. But it takes a while for the anti-malware folks to clear the flags.. They tend to be, and rightly so, a bit paranoid.
  • If you guys are using windows OS why not use Microsoft Security Essentials? It's free and Microsoft manages it along with your OS. I would think they know best for your security.
    Just my 2c.

First link says website not found so not sure if it's a C&P error. Second one opened just fine.

The variety of results is sometimes really amazing.....and perplexing.

First, if what the OP is running is still called "Norton Antivirus", it is WAY outdated. The latest version is called "Norton Security". Maybe he needs to update.

I have been running Norton for YEARS and have had none of the problems that others report. Both of the above links work fine for me.

Norton is the worst for false positives and it embeds itself into your registry so if you ever try to uninstall it's like a root canal. ESET is probably the cleanest and less invasive AV ware and it doesn't hog most of your CPU trying to run in the background like Norton or Mcaffee.
  • For the past couple of year we've run Norton A/V at work. I get the alerts any time somebody encounters something. The number of false positive was crazy. Often blocked totally legitimate sites. My recommendation, try something other than Norton or adjust it and tone it down.
