What credit cards do you carry on the road?

I am aware this has been discussed on the forum before, however cards are always changing. We have excellent credit, 807 last I checked and am looking for either a reduction in the price per gallon of fuel or cash back. What's working for you at this time?

  • Costco 4 percent rebate
    Sams Club 5 percent rebate
    Bank of America 5 percent

All gas discounts but they also give smaller rebate percentages on groceries with 1 percent on all purchases. I have heard that the Pentagon FCU CC is also very good.

    Flying J/Pilot RV Charge Card
    Discover for virtually everything
Master Card for the few places that won't take Discover
VISA is our emergency card if the wallet or purse are stolen

we also have a Pacific Pride account but haven't used it in a few years primarily because their prices were never posted but their stations were very convenient.

Discover gives us some cash back but we carry it mainly due to the superior customer service.
  • You might not believe this, but we don't have any Credit Cards, except Sears, which notified us last week by mail, if we did not use the card it was going to be canceled in about a month.

We use only our bank debit/credit cards and cash. Nothing more. We will never go back to a normal Credit Card. We got ourselves jammed up with Credit Cards some 30 years ago and had to sell our house to pay it all off (mostly because of medical expenses and deductibles). We said we'd never allow ourselves to get into that position again.

We had some money left over from the sale of the house, and we put that into a separate checking account. When we need high ticket items we use it, then pay ourselves back ... RELIGIOUSLY until the "debt" is paid back in full. We add to it regularly to help continue build the balance as inflation continues to cause things to become more and more costly.

I can't imagine how much interest this has saved us over the years!

No, never again... no "True" credit cards to get swallowed up in the bottomless interest abyss ever again!
  • If you use Amazon a lot there is a Chase-branded Visa that will give you rebate $$$ to spend at Amazon. That works for me.

Chase has a wide variety of cards and I've always been pleased with their security and helpfulness. Check their web site for some that will give you cash back.
  • Costco Visa for fuel. 4 percent cash back on fuel worldwide. AA Citi MC for everything else.
  • Amex and Visa, and US Bank debit card. I buy fuel wherever I find it.

I do not drive a Class A motorhome.
  • I have a couple of Capital One cards for major repairs that pop up when you least expect them. I carry my BOA debit card for small stuff and my Flying J card for RV diesel purchases. That has a $2000 a month limit, gives me a discount, and takes the money from my checking account the following month the same date.
  • RV Plus Pilot-Good Sam charge card. Full amount deducted from checking each month. No interest. 5 cents to 9 cents discounts on fuel, pump start so you don't have to go inside and no dollar limit on pump.
Walmart Mastercard - 3 cents off per gallon of gas at Murphy USA gas stations except in Alabama. Plus cash back of 1 percent to 3 percent on purchases.
One VISA card to use for campgrounds, larger purchases like repairs, ordering things online, etc.
