what do these wires belong to

Hi I own a 2006 Jayko Greyhawk 30GS on a E450 . Ive owned for the last five years with no real issues to speak of. For years now I have been wanting to fix the driver side plastic foot step insert as you enter the cab. The rear part always bother me because it never looked like it was fitting correctly near the seat belt. I finally took it off today and this was what I was faced with. I have no Idea what it goes to or what it went to. It appears factory wiring that had been spliced into. The male end of the grey piece is nowhere to be found. I looked in all my manuals for the chassis and coach with no luck. My MH is equipped to be satellite ready. Everything seems to work in the MH as it should except for fan in bathroom which I do not think this is for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Yes that is what I'm guessing . However my concern was that it was hacked into already and then put back together as if it had a purpose. I'm guessing it was a add on the previous owner had. Thanks for everyones help.
  • Thanks for the larger photo!
I have the same grey connector - plugged into nothing! Odd I never noticed it before.
It has to be a Ford cable, coming down from the roof of the cab. My cab is very basic, not even a remote for the door lock. Some option not installed I would guess.

IF I had to guess, those are for your Dome and Map Lights.

My Haynes E-Series manual has wiring diagrams. If you want to post the color coding of the wires in Ford's OEM harness, I may be able to find them in the manual and tell you what it says they're for.

The one by our thumbnail looks like Orange with a Red Stripe. But that "Orange" might be Tan or Brown, and I can't see enough of the other wire to make a good guess.
  • Hi,

When Ford sells the van front end, they have wires run to the back of the RV for things like turn signals already in place, and strapped down to the frame.

Things like the cab light that comes on with the door open will have wiring like you have shown. So will wires that extend to the back of the chassis, for such loads as speakers, or something controlled from the cab that is located in the coach area, such as lights on the outside, or something from the coach wiring harness that is feeding something in the cab, such as lights in the cabover section that are run from the coach battery, or TV antenna, or whatever.

    Good luck figuring it out.

    Fred.
  • The picture needs to have higher resolution to be larger and clearer. I can't see what you are asking about in the little photo. I could take a look on my 2004 E350 and look for the connector.
  • I'd put that thing back and hope nothing stops working. If something stops working in the future you'll know where to look.
