- Dutch_12078Explorer IIIA good pair of eyes and common sense have worked well for me and mine for 70 plus years. Well, except for the years the government paid me to carry a weapon and use it as needed.
- FireGuardExplorer IIThe best thing to carry is good common sense, an acute awareness of your surroundings, and not putting yourself in bad situations.
That works 99% of the time.
For the other 1%, 12 gauge and 45 ACP levels the playing field.
It seems lately people are much more violent and have no regard for human life. Many savages out there and our liberal justice system only empowers them. - DufusExplorerMy favorite blanket. Oh, and a 12 gauge.

This is a very interesting question. I have no weapons but have been urged to get at least one while we RV. So many of you do have weapons. I am curious how you have had to use them. Obviously actually shot someone but also used it to scare potential threats off. With all this need for protection there must be many stories of break ins while in your RV or other circumstances where you used your gun. That leads me to the next question. Based on experience is it better to have a large rifle or a pistol?
It only has to happen just one time in your entire life to ruin your whole day. I was a cop for 28 years and carried a gun everyday of that career and yet never once did I shoot anybody with it. By the logic some use, I shouldn't even have carried it because I never used it. Can you see how faulty that logic is? The vast majority of RVers who chose to carry a gun on board will never have the need to shoot anybody with it. You will hear more stories of people maybe displaying it to scare off a threat than you will of people having to actually shoot it. But when that one in a hundred thousand chance happens and you do need it but don't have it, then that's where the problem arises. - hottubkidExplorerWith the way the government is right now, I would not answer this question. But ask you to be safe

Someone please pass me the popcorn? These threads always get very entertaining.
Anyone want to take bets on how many pages it goes before it gets ugly enough that a moderator has to lock it down? :B

I wouldn't blame a moderator for taking it down considering some of the replies given here. The OP asked a simple question and if you can't or won't answer it with a simple reply, then don't. No one is forcing you to answer.
F105, well, if you have been around as long as some of us, you would understand.... that's why I gave a joking answer.
But you know, if the moderators would allow it and the posters were honest and not trying to act like 'mister tough guy' with bizarre answers, I would like to know what actual situations people have been in and what did they do.
Honestly, we have not had any real problems since we have been motorhoming. A keen eye and logic is 99% of it.
But a separate thread with real life situations, I think, would be advantageous to the regular RV'er to know what has happened to our fellow RVing crowd.

I can only say that "bizarre answers" pretty well sums up what some of these replies are and add nothing to the question the OP asked. - Mr_Mark1Explorer
