For some odd reason, certain manufactures can live on their name alone, for a very long time.
As for newness vs excellence in engineering, I'll always spend the same buck for something used and proven.
For example, I'll take a 2003 BB Wanderlodge for the same money, over a brand new coach of lesser quality, any day.
