What is the single best part of RVing?

There are many many reasons we all do it but if someone were to ask for the number 1 reason you do it, what would that ONE reason be?

For us its having our own bed and toilet. You could argue that that is 2 things but I classify it as one reason. If I had to categorize it I would call it "having a hotel room that I clean".

  • Right now, we are in Williwaw Campground in Portage, Alaska. Between the birds and the waterfalls, it is so loud I can barely hear myself think. The view out my front window is of trees and a snow covered mountain, but I am warm inside drinking a cup of coffee, alternating between browsing the internet and looking for sheep on the mountain. Later we will go hiking and maybe look for bears down by the river. For dinner, we will probably throw steaks on the campfire and have s'mores for dessert. If we aren't too tired, we may watch a little tv before going to bed.

The single best part? I can do much the same thing in the Florida Keys or the Mojave Desert or the Maine Woods. It's a lifestyle that can really only be achieved by RVing.

    I like the independence.

Camping in wild places has always been part of my life, but now, with my little van, I feel I can just pull over and sleep anywhere, even in cities.

    I've hardly ever done that, but I like feeling like I CAN -- I don't have to find a campground or a motel. I am self-contained :).
  • NOT sleeping in a creapy hotel with stains from God knows what.
  • Hands down, it has to be the people we meet,,, ahhhh or is that our #1 worst reason,, you flip the coin... ;)
  • The wife and I just head in a general direction. We have no destination and no schedule. We prefer most of the back roads and if we like a place, we stay for awhile. If not, we just keep going. We never make reservations for any RV park and have always found a place to stay for the night. This freedom is what we like the best and it has allowed us to see parts of the country that many will never see.
  • Mobility.....It's taking our cabin on wheels wherever we want! Mountains, lakes, ocean etc. We have family that own vacation houses. They are stuck in that one spot forever. We like the fact whatever our mood, we can go where we want. Short or long distance. 2 nites or two weeks. Trees or water. We are blessed.
  • I needed to get out and see how the other part of the world/states lived. I lived in Chicago all my life. Moved to Wisconsin and saw how completely different that was and well the rest is history. Sold the house and went full time.

Just not having to shovel snow is about 99% of the reason I RV.

Heck if you buy a house in Florida snow removal is included in the price!
