- scbwrExplorer IISo far with the motorhome, I find I prefer to stay in the 60-65 mph range. I share the concern for safety if traveling too much slower than the traffic, but for our own safety, I feel that it's best to avoid going over 65 for any extended period of time. That is also the way I handled towing travel trailers....especially since most trailer tires are only rated for 65 mph.
- MommaluExplorerI spend more time behind the wheel of an oversized vehicle than my truck. I find it safer to do the posted speed limit and sometimes up to 3 over to blend in with traffic. Too many rude, impatient people determined to get in front of a larger slower vehicle, often its far from safe. My goal is to arrive safe regardless if its a coach, school bus, or our motorhome. Purposely doing 10 to 15 mph slower than the posted speed limit is creating a situation where some will do something stupid that endangers my life and the precious ones behind me. NOT going to happen on my watch if I can help it!!!
So yes I use all the horses in our V10 (as I do with the buses) and am often flowing with freeway traffic at 72 in a 70 zone.
Am I in a hurry? Not so much as avoiding the potential dangers of frustrated idiots who get around the slow moving vehicle and jam on their brakes to point out their frustration. Don't understand it but have experienced it and choose to avoid it. It doesn't happen when I'm doing the speed limit or a tad over. - Tom_BarbExplorerWe run 60-65 (diesel) . our Wa, speed limit for any thing that weighs 10,000 or more or in combination, the limit is 60.
I stay left as much as possible and try to make passing easy. You guys keep the cops busy, I'll wave and honk as I go by. - WAFlowersExplorerI usually have cruise set to 65 unless the speed limit is less. On rare occasion I've run at 68 for a bit and very rarely hit 72 for only a few minutes at a time.
- FloridaRosebudExplorerNational SeaBreeze LX Gasser - 60-65mph. That's where I'm most comfortable and the handling is good.
- BigD629ExplorerI drive the speed limit, whatever it is - DP.
- Tom_NExplorerMy Workhorse Actia dash read out shows my average speed as 37.0 mph over 32259 miles. Check you LCD dash read out for yours.
On an interstate I usually set the cruise control at 63 mph.
My ScanGuage II also stores my average speed but that is only over the last 50 miles.
-Tom, W3TLN - ferndaleflyerExplorer IIII drove my DP 400mi yesterday in 6 hours. That's averaging about 67mph but I was running 70--75 most of the time as the speed limit was 70.
- HadEnoughExplorerHumor is hard to interpret without emojis.
You know when you see a truck camper fly by like your class A was parked? You think, that jerk should slow down. Where is he in a rush to with a camper?"
Yes, that jerk is me. I maintain a smooth 80mph all day long with my TC. Diesel. I think the cops see an RV and assume their radar malfunctioned. :) - BarabooBobExplorer IIISometimes when you can't see someone or you don't know them, you can mistake sarcasm for being just plain mean.
