What kind of Class A do you recommend?

Hey all..Have had a TT for the past 10 yrs while I have been working. Getting ready to retire at the end of next month and the DW and I are considering a Class A. We are looking for something in the 30ft range with at least two slideouts, gas or diesel. I have always liked the looks of the Hurricane but never really looked into them or any other Class A for that matter. Looking for pros and cons from experienced Class A owners. It will be just the DW and I on weekend trips and occasional extended trips until she retires. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

  • "In the 30 ft. range" limits you mostly to gasoline powered units. I owned a 31' Hurricane with the Ford V-10 and it was reliable and a decent Class A.

We determined we needed a larger Class A and purchased a diesel pusher.

You will determine what meets your needs and purchase accordingly. Spend lots of time walking through and taking account of the details. Take test drives. Ask lots of questions.

A dealer wants to sell, sell, sell. So weigh closely all you hear from them.
  • Get one that you can afford, and you could spend time in. We drove a few diesels and a few gas before we bought. Some gas MH are as quiet as some diesels and some ride better. You will spend more time sitting then moving. Even if you drove every day, you will spend time not moving.
  • The standard answer is to start looking and find a floor-plan that works for you. You'll spend much more time inside, living in the coach than on the road. That said, if you're going to go cross country and spend lots of time on the road and you're planning to tow a vehicle, you may want to consider a diesel unit. They tend to be more on the long-haul design. But, if you're only going to weekend-it and take one or two 300-400 miles trips a year, then a gasoline unit should fit your bill just fine. Gasoline units are typically lesser expensive and cost less to maintain.....especially if you are handy enough to do most of your own routine maintenance. Gasoline units are louder when underway because the engine is between you and your passenger. Newer models are quieter today, but overall the diesels are very quiet since the engine is usually in the rear. There are plus-es and minus-es to both.

You can find lots of options, but you gotta get out there and find one you like first!

    Good luck!
