Its a big block Chev water pump---where in the he!! is $800--$1000 in that deal? Our shop used to change the whole motor for $1000 labor in a van or MH. Might take someone with no experience a while longer to change the pump but its not rocket science, its a water pump
Give us the name of the shop that will change the whole motor in a Workhorse chassis motor home for $1000. There is one member now that needs his motor changed and your shop will be great for him. :@ - rwgeiserExplorerRockauto does list this same P/N, price is $225. not the same P/N as listed for Workhorse. Found this listing by P/N and AC Delco only.

Unless your pump arrives with the 12558870 casting number on the side of it, I would not bother changing it unless you plan on trading the coach in. The correct water pump uses a much larger bearing and is a heavier casting to handle the weight of the rotating mass. My old pump weighed 19 pounds. Your labor will be the same either way but I would definitely make sure you use the correct water pump. You WILL NOT find the GM 89017773 pump at Rockauto.com with the correct casting number as shown in your u-tube video. - J-RoosterExplorer

Thanks for the info I'm going to file it!
Mine took ME about 3 1/2 hours and the water pump cost me about $250. Once it was apart, I also changed the lower radiator hose, the smaller coupling hose, thermostat, serpentine belt, and idler pulleys. Obviously these add an additional $100 in parts PLUS the cost of antifreeze. Make sure that when they replace the lower radiator shroud that they check it's clearance from the water pump fan.
I think you can expect a hit of about $800-$1000 to pay a shop to do it.
I should add that there are less expensive water pumps out there that will fit the 8.1L engine. The problem is that you need the extra heavy duty one that has the larger front bearing to handle the weight of the heavy fan clutch and fan. It was GM part# 89017773 on a 2003 chassis several years ago. - ferndaleflyerExplorer IIIIts a big block Chev water pump---where in the he!! is $800--$1000 in that deal? - garyemunsonExplorer IIAs Rgat said, be sure it is the heavier duty pump. At $105, I think you've been sold the standard one. The Workhorse chassis uses that huge heavy fan that will take out the standard pump bearings in a very short time.
