What satelite system to purchase?

We had a Kingdome and it was garbage. Now we have a Motosat. We have 2 receivers running 3 tvs ( 2 in HD, 1 in SD) . Use Dish with a VIP722K DVR for 2 tvs, and a 211K for the bedroom tv. When we boondock, trees are never an issue. most RV parks these days have
trees trimmed to provide sat service. I always tell them I need sat and they know which sites will work

update- we got the Traveler & it solved all our issues. Works with our duel receiver, and automatically finds the signal at the push of a button. They should have named it the Marriage Saver.
Have to say, we have never had an issue with obstruction at any park we have stayed at, however, depending on where you travel, one might need to consider the number/size of trees in the park.

If you go with the Winegaurd Traveler and the Dish VIP211 receiver you will have the best of everything. At least it works for us very well and having the DVR is an absolute boon.

I also carry my Wingard Carryout in the bay just in case I have a tree problem. Downside with the Carryout and the VIP211 is that you need two cables to feed the receiver or it will not work. The installer took care of everything by add two A/B switches to select roof or ground antennae.

No need, it's the same antenna they install on a house. Any Dish receiver will work, including multiple dual tuner DVR receivers.

We have the Winegard Travler and love it. If you buy the Travler for Dish, it's less expensive. We had a KVH dome when we first bought the coach and had occasional issues with trees and rain. The open dish Travler shoots well through trees if they're not to thick or too close.

Personally, I think DirecTv offers more choices and I don't know how much longer Dish will stay afloat. I beleive if you buy the Travler for Dish, it can be upgraded to DirecTv at a later date. We eventually dumped cable at our house and went with DirecTv. We were tired of paying two bills and it made life easier. Everything was the same from home to RV, including the DVR.

My experience with a dual tuner DVR is that it works best with an open face antenna like the Winegard Trav'ler or a Dish 1000 on a tripod. With a dome, it showed a signal on tuner 1 only. A triple LNB antenna will feed multiple receivers and tuners in those receivers on 110, 119 and 129. You'll be a lot happier going that way than trying to get the receiver to work on both tuners with a dome of any sort.

Pay as you go is a good system to keep cost down. I believe you can use only the VIP 211K or Hopper/Joey receivers. See Winegard site. The Tailgator @ $349 is probably the best bang for the buck and easiest to get a signal in all conditions.

We have a two year old Motosat HD sat dish. It really has worked well. Yes there are some parks where there are trees in the way. But we have a DVR and we just watch what we have already recorded on those days. We get Direct TV. We got used to HD at home and wanted HD on the road too. Once you get used to the sharp clear picture you don't want to go back to standard def. At least we don't.

Decide which programs/stations are the most important to you, and you will probably have your answer. Both Dish and DirecTV will provide fine service BUT they both do not offer ALL of the same channels, or special sports packages.
