What year is this RV? Can the COACH VIN be checked?

Hi folks...

Considering the purchase of a class C, though this question pertains to all RV's (I suppose).

The owner is advertising it as a 1996. The VIN for the Chevy chassis says it's a 1995. Fine so far, I get that the coach model year isn't necc the same as the chassis model year.

There is a sticker by the driver's door, it says:

Manufactured by Damon Corp 10/1994.
GM Manufacture 8/1994.

The vin check on the chassis shows a first title May of 1995.

I try to use the coach VIN, which is 12 characters in the various vin check websites, and they all, so far, tell me I need 17 characters.

I called Thor (who bought Damon of course), and the lady said it's a '95, then referred me to someone else who is out til Monday.

So what model year is this thing?

  • I don't understand the sticker by the driver's door that says 1994. If the Chassis VIN says 1995, then the coach can't be any older than 1995. The coach could be newer than the chassis.

  • the registration slip should show the recognized date of manufacture and the first sold date
  • Could be the seller just made a mistake.....he could have bought it new in 1996.
  • I'd say that the seller is misrepresenting it at a 96 unless he can come up with a good reason. if Damon made it in 10/1994 I would think that it would be a 95 model coach barring some unusual circumstances.
but I agree what does it matter? I bought a 95 Glaval Halfback conversion van. stopped by the factory to get some technical advice and the fella who went with me to the van said that the interior was the 19996 interior so strange things can happen with model years.
