- JanTxExplorerI just read "all wood" and that TOTALLY turned me off. glad I went back and reread this post....
thanks for all you suggestions! - bsinmichExplorerAll of that model Onan generator looked that way when mounted correctly. There is not a mounting problem there. If there are no water leaks it could be a good MH. The Honey was all wood framing so was susceptible to rot.
- JanTxExplorerI would think 5K for anything that works and is trustworthy is a good deal for us. It's a smaller rig and cosmetically it's a little rough but I have been seeing older ones around town all day,, out for the holiday weekend and makes me think that a lot of the older ones are still out there providing fun for the owners and carrying on,,, soo.... w/ that said,, I feel positive. Still,, I will go have a look and check her inside outside and upside down.
- DaveinetExplorerMake your mistakes with a cheap one, so the mistakes don't cost you much. You'll need to decide early on how much you want to limit your budget, and how deep you want to get involved to limit your losses if you are anticipating on trading up in a few years. 3 or 4 months and you should have a pretty good sense of what direction you want to go and how long you want to keep it or how far upside down you want to get. Anyone who has an older coach is upside down in it, so you just have to keep that in mind if you intend to bail. Otherwise, being upside down is OK if you intend to keep it and use it. We recoop our expenses by using our coaches, not by reselling them.
- JanTxExplorerthat is exactly what im thinking,, something cheap to get our feet wet and learn how to handle the life... and get use to driving the thing. I talked to the owner and he said they never took it far... just to the lake and so that's why the low mileage. The tires were purchased this year and he was having back surgery soon so wouldn't be able to use it...SO,,,
I am going to go look at it I think and see how it looks. I may hate it when I see it in the "flesh"... but I think it's worth a look given all the reasons Im attracted..
Will keep yall posted - DaveinetExplorerYou need to answer a philosophical question first. What is your goal? Is 5 grand all your budget will ever afford, and this one seems to be within reach? or are you looking at this as a chance to get your feet wet, without spending a ton of money? If this is the kind of thing that you always thought you wanted, and this is one is within financial reach, then I would proceed with huge caution. RVs are expensive to own and keep up. Even if you do all your own work, expect to spend several thousand above the $5K to get it road worthy. Make sure your budget can handle that. You may be asking what could possibly cost that much, especially if the coach drives down the road OK. There was an informal survey done a few years back, asking how much people spent after the initial purchase, to get the coach in satisfactory condition. $5 to $8K was the the typical answer! Its just the way it is.
On the other hand, if you view this as a cheap way to get your feet wet, as a learning experience, so you know what to look for, once you want to spend serious money, then this may not be a bad deal. As a learning experience, you could probably always sell it at not too much of a loss, once you learn first hand how to look at RVs. (I did the same philosophy with a sail boat - bought it cheap, sold it for a few hundred less than what I paid for it, and learned what I really want, as well as where my expenses are) - doxiemom11Explorer IIWe know someone who has owned a honey that they purchased new for many years. They have been pleased. Theirs also has low mileage, but not from non-use. They have only taken 1 long trip to California with it and other than that, being from MI they have campgrounds galore within 100 miles of them. They camp almost every weekend all summer and the unit is driven to and from a campsite. Sometimes it's only 30 miles away and back, sometimes it's a longer trip. When you have a state loaded with campgrounds, you don't have to take long trips and rack up mileage to use it. Talk to him and see how it was used.
- crimmps49ExplorerLooks like a good price so if everything checks out it might be worth buying. As hubby says, anything can be fixed if you have $$$$! A new brace could be installed under that genny, but is it a telltale for what the rest of the frame is? Since you are not in a hurry---make sure you check it out well or you could just have bought a money trap big time.
- JanTxExplorergood to know!
thanks! - Executive45Explorer IIIAm I the ONLY one that noticed that those pictures are over a year old....:h:h:h..I would wonder why he didn't post current pictures......Dennis
