Where to mount a rear view camera monitor on E450 chassis?

So I decided to stick with the WIRED version of Rear View Safety back up camera (model # RVS-770613) purchased at Costco.

I installed the camera and snaked wire down sides to chassis. Now I will run cable forward to cab area.

I am looking at where to install the 7" monitor on my E450 chassis.

For those that have installed a back up camera monitor.....

Can you please share some pics of where you installed yours?

I am considering a windshield mount made by rear view safety as it seems the least obtrusive. On this mount you remove the OEM rear view mirror and use the windshield mount that is glued to windshield. I can then mount my ScanGauge II on top of monitor.

Anywhere around dash or console area eats up too much valuable real estate!!

  • As best I can remember, I came in under the driver's side step plate, behind the side panels and up behind the left pillar trim. From there behind the visor to the monitor. I liked keeping the mirror so I could see what the DW was up to when moving down the road.:)
  • Rear View Safety was kind enough to swap out the duck foot mount for the windshield mount. Their mount take sthe place of the rear view mirror and attached to the same button left behind when oem mirror is removed. Looks like it will work great.

AS far as running cable......I came down the rear left side and am at the chassis. I was thinking of running forward and entering cab from diver's side.

Is there a reason for cable to enter from passenger side? It will use about another 8' of cable to move to passenger side.
  • When you run the wire, there are several round and oval holes next to the step well in the driver and passenger sides that have rubber plugs that you can cut a slit into and run your wire. There is no need to cut any holes or run the cable into the engine compartment. It is best to do this on the passenger side. Attach the duck foot of the monitor stand to the underside of the ceiling molding with four screws. No need to remove the rear view mirror.

Most are built into the drivers side visor or built in the radio . Sounds like you already picked the best place. On my visor mount they ran the cable up the door trim and to the visor.

either this or taking out the OEM rear view mirror could work...anything else on the dash?

Yep, that's how my 2005 Itasca on a E450 looks. minus the PC of course.
