The Jeep should not accumulate mileage when being towed but I have read somewhere that some were doing that and cannot remember the fix or cause or where I read it.
There is several Jeep technical forums and there you may find your answer or check with a good dealer there may be a TSP on that issue.
Re-read the manual on recreational towing as the answer may be there.
