Which dog ramp for class A mh?

We have a fairly large dog, lab mix about 85 lbs. The floor level of our class A tag mh is fairly high, about 5 steps off the ground. We are getting in need of a portable, collapsable ramp that will extend out for our dog. I would like to find the longest one available so that the incline is the least and one that is well built. Those of you that travel with your four legged children, what do you use or what do you recommend?

We bought a telescoping ramp from Petsmart for our aging Golden with bad hips and metal plates in her back legs but was a little flimsy and thin carpet surface slick. She used it but did not really like to.
Bought a much better folding ramp from Petstep. much more stable and not slick at all. She used it with no problem until passing. Now our newest rescue Golden uses it to reduce stress on her hips and legs.

We used this ramp also. Very well built. I weigh 250 and would walk up the ramp without damage. Good product.

  • We have a geriatric Golden with arthritic hips who has always been afraid of open steps and a three legged Lab/Chesapeake mix with a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. We bought a ramp from Costco online. It folds in half for storage and has a ribbed surface for traction. Both of our dogs are around 75 pounds, and we have never had a problem with the ramp not holding them well.

You have not seen a large dog with arthritis in hips. It is either a ramp or lift. Yes the dog will give it all she/he has and it is not fun to watch the failure.

    Absolutely correct.

  • We order one from Dr Fosters that is 7 feet long holds up 150 pounds
slides together for storage. It is not plastic
  • If the large dog is older and has arthritis in his/her hips, those steps can be hard to manage. In addition, if the steps are narrow and tall, it can be harder on the large dogs because they are too long to fit the steps (requiring them to skip steps).

I had done some research into this because I wanted one for the dogs to climb up to the cabover bunk in my class C. I would go with a metal framed one (rather than a plastic) because it will hold the weight better. Look at companies that sell the car ramps - they have some that will fit well for a minivan/suv height and pickup bed heights, so you can pick the best fit.

For my purpose, I went with a 4-step plastic stair. It's bulky (not really collapsible), but is the perfect height:length ratio to sit on the couch and get the dogs to the bunk - although Moose-dog uses it more as a jump platform because the steps are a bit too short for him.
  • We use a dog ramp for our large dogs (110 and 70 pounds). Ours just says Petco on it. It is a bifold. Bought it used on Craigslist. It also has a non-slip coating on it. We have used it for the dogs to get in and out of our truck, 5th wheel and now our class A MH. Wouldn't travel without one.

  • We have a golden retriever who is the same weight who started having problems with the steps as he aged. I went to a Pet Smart and bought a collapsible ramp that was made out of plastic and folded down into four sections. The packaging said it would support 100 pounds. And it wasn't cheap either, over $100. They lied on the packaging. It was a cheap piece of junk that won't even stay level much less support 85 pounds. I haven't gone out and got a replacement for it yet. I write you this to warn you about the cheap junk out there. You are going really high in a motorhome so you need something that is long and with carpet on it so the dog can get traction. I'm not shooting for getting all the way to floor level, but probably to the top step. Something to go from the ground all the way to the floor level would probably have to be 10 feet long or more for the dog to be able to use it.
