Wifi thermostats I am familiar with will only connect to a connection you manually set up, so you would have to reconnect it every time you move. They aren't just plug and play, so to speak.

its actually worse than that now that I think of it. The Honeywell I have is WiFi enabled, but it needs to talk to the Honeywell server in order to function at all. So in a CG it might be interesting to attempt to get it to talk to the local WiFi unless you haul along a hotspot with the thermostat pointed at that. I'm sure there are other issues to pop up too.

I've been using one for about 5 years in my house, but each time I change WI-Fi provider it is a task to reprogram it.
Main advantage of it is, that when I seat with laptop on my knees and thermostat 5 feet away on the wall, I don't need to get up to push fan button, but can do it on the net from my laptop.
Don't think it would be that important in camper.

You mean the two Honeywell digital programmable home thermostats I installed in our motorhome a couple of years ago don't really work? Had me fooled!

The Wi-Fi themostats I've used in my house don't always have to be hooked to WiFi. They only need to be hooked when changing the settings, or if you want to check the temperature from a remote location. I personally have both a iPad and an iPhone. If I wanted to set up a WiFi thermostat in my motorhome I'd simply set it up to hook to the built in WiFi hotspot on the iPad. Then just leave the iPad in the motorhome with the hotspot on and you can control and monitor the temp from the iPhone. You do need the iPad with the high speed cell service to do this. This actually isn't a bad idea if you leave pets in the motorhome in hot climates. This way you can check in every once in a while and make sure the temp is staying low enough inside the motorhome.

90% are exactly the same, especially heat only, and there are lots of posts around with people replacing the more complicated heat/ HVAC ones. Just need to be a little creative
