Window Tinting Blues

The tinting on my RV windows is four or five yrs old now & is starting to fade and bubble; time to redo. I used "Gila" brand from one of the chain hardware stores the last time. I want to use a much better brand this time. I researched 3M brand and it sounded like the right stuff, but if I understand correctly, it is only available to dealers who do window tinting, not do-it-yourselfers. I did see some on ebay, but fake 3M is being produced overseas so it's risky to buy it on ebay. Anyone out there do your own window tinting that's lasted 5+ years or so? If so, what brand did you use?

    Your welcome. when you do order don`t go by the USPS tracking info. it took a week to get it after ordering and all that time the tracking info always said they just had a label prepared. I was going to call and find out what was going on, then it showed up at my doorstep. USPS has a terrible system.

    Good luck with the tint. you will probably want the 35%. 20% is to dark and anything more than 35% doesn`t give much help for the difference.

    One day in your RV in the HOT sun in a Southern state?
    You'd be running for the window tint too! :W

    WOW!! Checked out the website, and talked to them--it's perfect. You can buy samples for a small fee in order to get a better idea of exactly what type and what percentage of tint you want before you buy a roll. Also, being able to order it by the foot is fantastic. Thanks so much again for the information!

    I like the idea that you can have some privacy, especially when you're sitting at the dinette, without having to close your blinds. You still get to look outside if there's a view, but have some sense of privacy. It's also good in colder weather because if we put insulation in windows, it can't been seen from the outside, which may look somewhat unsightly.

    I read somewhere that the thicker type of tinting was blurry to see out of. How did you find it to be?


    Not the one I bought. It is crystal clear just like looking out a normal window.

    I went to WM and bought their 'removable' limo tint. It is a heavier thickness than the cheap removable tint which is why I think it lasts longer.

    Cut, lots of soapy water and put on.........8 years later it is STILL on and NO bubbles or peeling!:B Go figure.

ordering and all that time the tracking info always said they just had a label prepared. I was going to call and find out what was going on, then it showed up at my doorstep. USPS has a terrible system.

I like the idea that you can have some privacy, especially when you're sitting at the dinette, without having to close your blinds. You still get to look outside if there's a view, but have some sense of privacy.
