Windshield keeps popping out

We have a 2006 33h class a motorhome. We have had it put back in like 8 times and it keeps popping out. Does anyone know if this problem can be fix and by whom?
  • Windshields popping out is a non common, but not unusual problem. The cause and remedy is usually specific to the manufacturer. So please post the specifics of your motor home... Manufacturer, model

  • It is quit common with coaches 40' and longer when they get into a road that puts a twist on the whole superstructure. I saw it on a American Tradition while in Indiana, also a National diesel pusher the windshield popped out while in South Carolina Baylanding. The National was ugly because it seemed like some bracket supporting the front cap had broken.
  • We have a 96 Southwind. About six years ago I noticed the drivers windshield was pulling loose.

I took it to a glass shop recommended by a local RV dealer.
The glass shop removed both windshields, used the original gaskets and reseated both windshields.

The techs said the glass was not installed properly from the factory. They didn't use enough sealant when they were originally installed.
Sufficient sealant was used when they were reinstalled.
I've had no problems since the windshields were reset.

The techs also said the opening for the windshields was cut slightly larger than necessary when the Southwind was built.
Possibly that's part of your problem.

The bottom line is, you need someone that knows what they're doing.
Check with several RV dealers and see who they recommend for glass work. Or contact several glass shops, if they can't do it they probably know someone who can do it properly.

It cost $300 six years ago. To me it was well worth it, I've had no problems or leaks since.
I still have the Southwind. :)
  • When is the windshield popping out?:h Are you leveling the coach correctly. Putting down the jacks incorrectly will result in the frame twisting improperly and the windshield pops out. Quite common if not properly deploying your jacks....Dennis
  • We have a 2006 Thor Hericane 33h that has an automatic leveling system. It was put in every time by different glass places? It pops out just going down the highway.

I'm finding this hard to understand. It pops out and what happens? It flies into the RV or blows away down the highway? No one's been hurt after all those times? :?
  • The windshield opening may not be square, especially if it is a large, one-piece windshield. This can occur when the frame of the MH is severely twisted. Some steep angled drives such as entering a service station, can cause the frame to twist. The opening is then said to be "racked".

Only a very good MH body shop will be able to take the require measurements to determining if the opening is not square. The windshield must be removed to take the required measurements. If the opening is not square, the shop should be able to bring the opening back into square.

As stated by a previous poster, the windshield must be properly installed.

I think the name of the place is RV Glass Solutions in Eugene, Washington. They probably can refer you to a service facility that can correct your problem. They helped me at their Eugene facility; they are very good. They only provide window repairs, no other RV repairs.

    I wish you the best.

  • We've used RV Glass Solutions for our last two windshield replacements, (rocks). They have contracts nationwide and are a first class outfit....Dennis
