Windshield question

Woke up this morning, opened the front drapes to find a crack on the lower left windshield on the drivers side. We have been here for two weeks, not sure how this happened. There were no chips or nicks in the window prior to this. ( I would have noticed, always wash the windows upon arrival).

We have a 2001 holiday rambler imperial.

Are we okay to drive with it like this? Makes me nervous, not the DH.

Any ideas on how much replacement will cost? We have the split windshield.

  • I had a small chip on the top of my windshield and used a crack repair from Wally World, any parts store sells them also, $10. To me it was well worth it to try to stop it from running especially with weather changes coming. Good Luck!
  • We had the chip/crack repair done on our 2007 Endeavor 3 different times on three different hits. One was a good hit down low on driver's side. It ran about 6". Had it drilled and filled. Could see it but could live with it until, we caught the big one dead center down low in Monument Valley. By the time we arrived in Blanding UT, it had run from bottom to top.

The bill was $3000 installed for a one piece windshield. Since we hadn't had a claim for over five years our deductible was ZERO with Progressive.

Had the windshield for five months and caught a quarter size dinger dead center in AZ. Had it repaired care of Progressive for ZERO. Can only see it when the light is just right.

It just happens when you are pushing that much frontage area into the wind. Wonder what awaits me in AZ this winter.
  • We found a guy who put something on the windshield and stopped the crack from spreading...see if you can do that. He should tell you if that will not work and you need a new windshield.

Also, we have a rider on our insurance policy, it's no deductible for windshield replacement.
  • It is a stess crack. It will be OK. I have had one for some time in lower right corner of driver's side in my Pace.
My insurance company has always replaced both sides. I t is covered under comprehensive portion of my insurance. I have $250 deductible. Windshield normally runs around $1200.
  • The last time we had one replace was the same place. Cost was $2000 minus our $500, and we had it replaced when we got home. If it grows it grows. Nothing you can do to stop it.
