Windshield Wipers

Our windshield is a two piece so our wipers are in off position at the middle. However, over time both have become misaligned / off-centre and possibly less effective.

How do I adjust the wiper arms to be more "evenly positioned"? Hopefully that is a good enough description of what I want to do.

  • Update: The reason that the Driver side wiper was traveling too far was that the bracket that holds the pivot was broken, or rather the two studs welded to it were. Removed it, drilled out studs, replaced with bolts and all is now well.
  • Our 2009 35J drivers side wiper travels too far outboard, just about right inboard. Passenger side is OK. This is a new occurrence. Wiper travels at least 6 inches too far. Ideas? Motor is tight, spline seems OK, will pop and check, pivot point might be loose. Any other ideas?

When this happened to me I found it was the screws that held the motor in place were loose. I was able to rotate the motor to position the blades where I wanted them then tighten the screws.
  • Look up under the cowling from the front hood. If you can see the linkage, look for adjustment slots in the arms. I've adjusted several coaches with similar problems using the slotted adjustment. Occasionally, I've also found one or more loose pivot points on the linkage that allowed extra slop in the wiper movement.

    Hi Skrams,

I had the same issue - so I bought some wipers from Costco (27 inch? I think the longeest you can get easily) and did some custom work to make them fit. Although they were 2-3 inches shorter, I was able to make them fit the window better as the original ones had never touched the whole windshield correctly to begin with.

I also felt that "RV wipers" we over priced.

Yes, our wipers are useless. They don't actually keep in contact with the windshield through the whole cycle. I might try this.

For the latter, there should be some set screws you can loosen, adjust the blades, then tighten down.

Thanks, I will have a look at it.

  • Do you mean they are not coming as close to the center of the windshield as before, or when they are at center, the blades are no longer vertical?

For the former you might have to pop the whole arm off and reposition them on the motor shaft. I took mine off recently to repaint them. Just used a wood block against the front of the rig and popped them off with a claw hammer.
