Wingard Traveler

We installed a Wingard Traveler for Direct TV in 2010. I looks like it is time for a new one or we have to remove this one and ship it to Wingard for a rebuild ... Has anyone ever done this?
  • We spent over two hours trying to find a configuration that would work. We have HD in the living room and bedroom. Before we went to the Genie, we had two lines running to each Direct TV HD DVR. We started having signal trouble with the bedroom DVR. So, we decided to install the Genie. We discovered the problem when the tech put his meter on the outputs of the antenna.
  • I'd ask a Mod to move this to Technology Forum where it is more likely Bill.Satellite will see it. He's da Man when it comes to these. I don't understand what the tech is saying either. If the Traveler is aiming right then it might just be a bad LNB or, as others have said, coax.
  • Did the tech go on the roof. It's REALLY common for the coax cable to need a tightening at the connection on the roof to bring the signal back. 7/16" wrench.
  • I had one of my 2 Dish receivers fail to work after two years. I switched the cable at the antenna base to unused one and now it works. I determined which cable went to which receiver by using a Coax Cable Continuity Tester

I guess the tech would have to explain that since you only need ONE output per TV. My Traveler has four outputs up at the antenna but I only have one cable going down to the TV.
Why not just try moving your coax cable to a different output from the antenna and see if that works.
I'm also curious what diagnostics you did to lead him to that conclusion?

  • My SK3005 was shipped from the west coast to Winegard. Cost me nearly a hundred dollars. Add Winegards "rebuild" cost and return shipping and I had about 500 dollars invested. At the end of the day it was still DOA.
  • That sure doesn't warrant a completely new antenna. Is there not
a Winegard dealer around you that will work on it? Pulling that thing off the roof and shipping it is worth the trouble to find a local shop.

  • What are the symptoms that it is not working properly? Maybe only one component of the system has failed.
