Winnebago Trend

I am really excited about the new Winnebago Trend built on the RAM ProMaster chassis. Maybe too excited for my own good. For those not familiar with Winnebago's new unit, here is a nice link.

If anyone has bought one, ordered one, or test driven one, I would love to hear from you of your impressions. My dealer is to call me when they get one in.

I have no idea what the price range of that unit is, but I would want to compare it to the Itasca Navion c class first.

We rented a Navion equipped with the Mercedes Turbo diesel, for a trip down to Cailfornia, and fell in love with it. It was extremely kind on fuel consumption, very comfortable to ride in, and handled like a dream at all speeds. The slide out, and cab over bed offered great sleeping accommodation and lots of cabin space. Everything about it, other than perhaps the smaller stove top, was fantastic.

I would buy one in a heartbeat, if I could only afford it..lol

That looks just like mine!! (the RV, not the Shelby and Daytona Coupe)
  • Not to belittle the Trend but a direct comparison to the View/Navion doesn't really work. They occupy different market niches, the Trend being below the V/N is size/weight/price. I would put it in a niche more like where the Rialta was.

Last I checked the Transit wasn't going to be able to match the gross weight of the 3500 Sprinter.
  • If someone bought me one, I would certainly accept it! Preferably the rear bed floor plan. Any generous benefactors out there? ;)
  • Because the Trend uses a Ducato/ProMaster cab, the seats are going to be cloth due to the airbags.

There are a lot of ups and downs on Winnebago's new rig. I would guess MPG is about 25% better than the usual Ford E350/E450, but not as good as a Sprinter (you won't see 20s.)

In Europe, the ProMaster/Ducato platform is the choice for 2/3 of all motorhomes there (www.fiatcamper.com), so if it were total junk, it would have been tossed long ago for a Transit or a Sprinter base.
  • According to the Winnebago page, prices for the two floor plans are in the $88,860 range. I think there is about a $300 difference between the two. The RAM ProMaster is a a front wheel drive and a single wheel on the rear, Not duel tires like most Class C's. That interests me as I hate trying to inflate the inside tires. It's also cheaper to buy two less tires. The drop down bed feature is not a new concept. It has been in use in other brands for years. All lighting is LED, including the lighting inside the full length awning. It has a towing capacity of about 2000 pounds. The front cab has two USB ports and the front seats easily turn to face the coach. I am not a fan of the ultra leather or the style they have for this year, but maybe it will get better. I prefer cloth anyway.
  • The Sprinter 3500 chassis can handle a lot more weight than the Ducato/ProMaster chassis, so that is why the Winnebago View and the Forest River Solera can have multiple slide-outs.

Later this year, Ford is going to have their Transit platform out, and we might see some interesting "C"s on that. It has a higher cargo capacity than the ProMaster, coupled with a turbo gasser or turbo diesel engine (either is great in the mountains since they lose a lot less power than a normally aspirated engine.)

  • I've been looking at for a bit. It is a completely new chassis, and because the Ducato/ProMaster doesn't have as much carrying capacity as the Ford E-series, the drop-down bed is the replacement for a slide-out.

I'm curious what the street price would be. MSRP is more than the Travato (a class "B"), but in general, class Cs tend to have a lot more negotiating room than the campervans.

All and all, the Trend has some cool features. On-demand hot water is a nice one. The drop down beds are another.

The two floor plans are fairly nice. Were I to get one, I'd probably go for the corner queen bed. However, if one didn't mind lowering and raising their bed every time, the other floorplan has more usable space when up and about.
