In December 2006 and January 2007 my wife, son and I went skiing in Red River, NM. We stayed at the Golden Eagle RV Park in Eagle Nest, NM. (Mid way between Red River and Angle Fire) We found this park quite by accident and will camp there any time we are in the area.
In Dec. 06 we had reservations at the River Ranch RV Park in Red River. We never made it due to bad weather. As we were going up the Cimarron Pass an ice storm arrived a day earlier than expected. We made it into Eagle Nest, NM and found the road into Red River closed due to Ice. As it was getting late in the day with deteriorating weather we starting looking for a place to camp. The first camp ground we went to said no way due to two feet of snow. The second camp ground we went to (The Golden Eagle RV Park, owned and operated by Bruce and Bridgette Manakas, said yes, but it would take a little while. Bruce, myself and my son took turns working a snow blower. Three hours later we were hooked up with heater running full blast.
The night time temperature was hitting -15 F. Every morning Bruce brought a full, large external propane tank and hooked it up to our coach. We were snowed in for three days and we burned a lot of propane. Yes, this camp ground can handle cold weather camping and
Bruce and Bridgette will do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. 40 foot coach no problem. Have a good trip.
