Wiring A/C junction box in to 20amp outlet

I would like to know if it's okay to take the junction box mounted on the roof for a rooftop air conditioner that no longer exists on my unit, and relocating it to use for an outlet on a 20 amp circuit to run space heaters and a portable air conditioner through. I have already removed the junction box and wired the outlet in to a cupboard in the MH but have not given it power yet as I am hooked up to regular house outlet using a 15 amp circuit and dont wanna pop the circuit. When connected to a proper 30amp outlet I will test it, if no one here has any serious concerns with it. I really dont want to to cause any more issues then are already there, however I can't think of any reason this is not feasible.

  • Okay perfect many thanks, the electrical work is no issue for me to wire up. It should currently be using a 12/2 or 10/2 wire for the 20amp circuit as a 14/2 wire would be to small for that amperage and it is regular three wire cable you would find in a house. As soon as I can plug in to a 30amp circuit I will find out. Thanks!
  • If your description is basically repurpose a dedicated circuit from the roof to the interior then by all means go for it. Get the right size and wire type and you are good to go.
  • As long as you are skilled enough to do the electrical work yourself, this should be a good modification. I'd go with it.
