Workhorse Dash snafu?

This is only the second time that this has happened earlier in the week I was on I-40 traveling downhill toward the Colorado River Bridge, when the electronics on my dashboard quit working for a split second. The speedo went from 60 to 0 then corrected itself as the tach went from 1900 to 0 then corrected itself, my MPG gauge went off and came back on and finally my seatbelt dash light came on and stayed on a little longer then the rest of the dash instruments. There was no engine failure and this happened when I hit a overpass bump (there is construction going on on I-40, repaving and all the overpass approaches were ground down about 4" and just left that way causing quite a jolt to my coach). My coach is a Winnebago Adventurer with a Workhorse W-22 Chassis! The first time is happened was about 5 years ago with the same results!

It could be something as simple as a loose ground connection in the dash wiring, especially since it happened after hitting a big bump. Since intermittent electrical problems are the hardest to find, I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to happen on a regular basis.

That is my suspiscion #1 as well. He described what happens in a bad ground situtation to a "T".

On my RV, while working on something else entierly.. I found a bad ground under the dash and tightened the screw.

I also fixed the non-related other issue.

QUESTION: The blasted annoying beeper.. Where is is exactly.. Mine is no longer going BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! (it's going (smaller font) beep beep beep (return to normal font) instead)

That is a known issue with the Actia instrument panel. In July of 09 at the Winnebago Grand National Rally the Workhorse rep said there was a fix for the problem. It requires a firmware re-flash. She offered to have a tech do it to my panel but we were unable to set up a time that worked for both of us.

Since I know that it is not a sign of impending doom I don't really care about it. It has only happened three or four times in ten years and 58,000 miles.

Back in 2005 I got the following info from a Workhorse customer service guy concerning a couple of other issues. I have seen number two often going up steep grades but not number one.

    1) Oil pressure can indicate zero and warning buzzer sounds when eng rpm exceeds 4550/4600 rpm. (50 rpm buffer problem)

    2) Ave mpg can go to 100 mpg when ave mpg drops below about 4mpg. Data table not large enough.
Thanks Clay, just before I left Lake Havasu City, AZ. last year I had a throttle ECM problem the shop disconnected then reconnected and it has worked fine ever since. You told me to keep an eye on it and so far 2,700 miles later no problems yet! Thanks to the others who replied also! Rooster

  • For what ever reason the ACTIA dash resets it self every now and then. Its like a computer rebooting. Mine has done it for seven years now with no adverce efects. At first I thought it was a bad connection but couldn't find any.

  • I'm on my third Actia gauge set and mine does the same thing. The previous two had a bad LED display so I'm just happy I can see mine.

It used to scare me when the alarm went off as I thought the oil pressure or something had gone bad.

Now I'm used to it and just ignore it.
